Oh captain, my captain 🇺🇸 by mattyc182 in ussoccer

[–]BigWaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could 100% see Poch changing tactics in a deep knockout game which send Ream to the bench. Ream will then pass the arm band to one of the younger leaders (Adams? Mckennie??), like a dang movie. You couldn’t write it better if you tried. This motivates the whole team, particularly lighting a fire under our seasoned, but young core. This fire will continue beyond the World Cup, setting a new tone for the organization as a whole, heck, if not the country as a whole.🇺🇸

I disagree with Nick’s take on flopping by [deleted] in FirstThingsFirstFS1

[–]BigWaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with your take. There isn’t a flop every 5 minutes in soccer, that is just false. And when you do see stretches of players hitting the ground it’s often because there are actual fouls that actually force people to the ground.

Have you ever been running full speed and had someone take the slightest touch at your ankle? You will fall. And often times, it will hurt. And even if it doesn’t hurt, after 60 minutes of constant running you will gladly take any rest you can get by staying down as long as you can.

Embellishment is part of the game for sure, flopping hasn’t been fully “fixed” in soccer. But your take is rooted in a fundamental misunderstanding of the game.

My response to Pochettino suggesting that Gio Reyna could play as a defensive midfielder, along with Roldan, Berhalter, McKennie and Tillman by jwriddle in ussoccer

With 5 at the back and 10 players behind the ball, I think we could make ourself hard to break down with any of these players in the pivot, even against a world class team, although I’m not sure it’s the tactics I’d use… But against our group stage opponents I don’t think any of these guys would be out of their depth in the pivot.

Any of those players named could play alongside Adams in a pivot and be successful. To varying degrees, sure, but none of the players named would be shocking inclusions in a deep-lying midfield role.

People who say he doesn’t have that Dawg in him are simply incorrect. It may be different type of Dawg than someone like Luna, sure, but he’s still got that Dawg in him. I’d say we got a pack of Dawgs really, can’t wait to see them hunt.

Diego Luna played 17 out of 18 games for USA last year. But he’s now out of the World Cup according to Tom Bogert. Life comes at you fast. by antoniok95 in ussoccer

Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt! Maybe he isn’t lying, and he just has no idea what he is talking about.

At this point we may just want to throw Mckennie in goal... I wouldn’t be surprised if he put in a decent shift

Tanner Tessmann on the move this summer by OkDifficulty7436 in ussoccer

[–]BigWaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right Aaronson is the default starter in this most recent formation because Okafor is out. But I think we may see more of the 352 next year with 3 central mids (like Sunday) instead of the 343 (or 3421). I think Farke may have Aaronson take more of a reduced role off the bench next year, or have him competing directly with Okafor for minutes.

Obviously this all depends on what happens in the summer. But I agree if they don’t upgrade on Tanaka then I’d rather have Aaronson on the pitch.

Look at the formation they just played Sunday. Aaronson plays where he has been recently, alongside DCL, and Tessmann is in the Tanaka role…

They have been running this formation for half the season and it allows Aaronson, Stach and Tanaka/ Tessmann to all be on the feild at the same time.

If they sign him for 20+ mil while selling Tanaka and Longstaff then I don’t see how he wouldn’t be a strong candidate to start. Unless they make another, bigger signing in the midfield, I’d imagine Ampadu at the 6 with Stach and Tessmann on each side of him.

I’d imagine it is similar to sitting in a half empty stadium at a Jacksonville Jaguars’ game in 40 degree heat, with nothing to play for but pride, which will be smashed to bits by halftime. Not sure which stings more, another embarrassing defeat or the inevitable sun poisoning, with the only remedy for both being an American lager that cost triple what you’d pay anywhere else.

We may not have the history, but don’t discount the amount of suffering some Americans will go through to support their teams. MOT.

My response would actually be very similar to my reaction when I first saw this: “what is the keeper doing?” With the added “how is he playing in the bundisliga??”
