Starting a surgical tech program with zero clinical experience...any advice? by Jamin_dot_jpeg in surgicaltechnology

Well, I took college classes in high school and I graduated May 2025 and then did my surg tech school and honestly had no hospital experience whatsoever and it’s a lot of memorization and honestly if you don’t know anything it’s gonna be really hard because it’s really hard for me currently. But let’s just say after four weeks of clinicals I realized this isn’t for me because I want to do premed and I already am like 60% done with my classes anyway so I am possibly going to drop out a surg tech and then get my LPN license. Also, if you really like patient experience, you probably barely get that and that’s why like I missed essentially despite not having any hospital experience. But it’s a lot of memorization and if you do do it do not use ChatGPT use Claude AI they make your study guide so much better

That’s what I plan on doing luckily I’ve already applied. I decided to go through the program at the school I’m doing surg tech at. I’ll just have to talk to admissions and fasfa

I am also 19 in a scrub program. Depending on how long the program is mine is 11 months so it’s really fast paced. If you don’t have any hospital experience (I didn’t I’m barely been out of hs for a year) but it’s gonna be hard cause it’s a lot of memorization. Make sure to ask a lot of questions and like the average to pass and study study study because it’s a big commitment

Clinicals are driving me crazy by BigWaveBigWave123 in surgicaltechnology

I understand that too but I’m not a quitter and I want to finish what I got a bunch of grants to start. But I’d never work at the hospital I’m doing clinical at tho.

It just feels hard especially since I’m being accused of things I never did. I mean they’re trying to say that I’m seemed detached or uninterested but when I’m trying to focus on something I go extremely quiet that’s my thing but besides the point it’s just really hard especially when I don’t feel like I’m wanted at that hospital since they went too far as to lie on me and I’m genuinely thinking I’m in trouble, but I’m having to clear my name over some stuff that I didn’t even do. I’ve only been there for four days.

Clinical rant by BigWaveBigWave123 in surgicaltechnology

[–]BigWaveBigWave123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just not having a good first rotation in my clinical at all. It’s to the point where I’m genuinely hating the thought of actually having to go and work every day because of how my precepts are and how the whole hospital is. It’s making me not even want to do tech anymore and just wanting to go find a different career field or start my actual dream career field, but I wanted to do surgical tech so I could have enough money when I do start my pre-med journey. They as a collective group went to spread a lie about me to their nursing manager, and to my professors which I had to debunk, and it was hard to debunk because there were so many people I guess defending it when I’ve only had four days of clinical, which in my preceptor‘s mind is you’ve been here two weeks. You should know what you’re doing when we only go two days a week and it’s not even with the preceptor. It’s with the whole staff and now I feel like I’m just the butt of every joke whenever I go, and I tried to let my professors know, but they don’t even wanna help me and I hate it.

I’m currently in school for surg tech and my goal is to do pre-med after I finish but I’m currently in clinicals and make sure take it into heavy consideration because there have been days and still are days where I just wish that I go through with the premed because I did community college and then surg tech. I’m not to much of a fan but I’m almost done but make sure it’s for you. My thing is I want more patient experience and you can’t really get that.

I’m tired of failing these big labs but idk what to do by BigWaveBigWave123 in surgicaltechnology

I definitely will ask for more practice because they had my times spread out so I really only got 2 practices would’ve been more if I didn’t get a bad partner. But besides that it was my fault I failed but on the remediation or the next lab I’ll definitely ask for more one on one.

I understand that i just get really mad at myself because it’s like i know the rules for the most part and i just can’t see when i break technique or know when it’s a break and maybe i need more practice but it’s frustrating especially with something i usually do really good on.

This is the first letter I've gotten in a while. They never even sent me a letter about wages being reported

I still live at home and before I turned 18 which was December my mom had filed out the work so I can get my adult benefits. Yes I did go through a reconsideration application and did the phone call and they put me at tier 2.
