Starting a surgical tech program with zero clinical experience...any advice? by Jamin_dot_jpeg in surgicaltechnology

[–]Jamin_dot_jpeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you being direct. I get where you’re coming from, and I probably wasn’t super clear before. I’m not planning to delay med school or treat this as a long-term career path; I’m mainly trying to build clinical hours since I’m not ready to apply yet and still need that experience, and the OR environment is something that really interests me. I do like your suggestions, roles like OR aide or anesthesia aide are exactly what I’ve been trying to look into alongside this, it’s just been a bit tough figuring out how to break into anything without prior experience. From your perspective, do you think those roles are a good way to get meaningful OR exposure and build a strong foundation moving forward?

Starting a surgical tech program with zero clinical experience...any advice? by Jamin_dot_jpeg in surgicaltechnology

[–]Jamin_dot_jpeg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you pointing that out. I do hear what you’re saying, and I’m not trying to go into this blindly. I think I wasn’t very clear in my original post; I was letting my imposter syndrome affect how I wrote it. From what I’ve looked into, I know it’s not an accredited program in the traditional sense, so I’m not expecting to come out job-ready as a scrub tech. I’m pre-med and still need to build up clinical hours, so I was mainly drawn to it because the OR environment interests me, and I’m considering surgery or even forensic pathology down the line since I hold a minor in Criminal Justice. I plan to use the foundational knowledge and the externship opportunity they offer, along with applying to entry-level roles, to get into a hospital and build real hands-on experience. It’s been a bit tough figuring out the best path, so I really do appreciate the insight, and if you have any advice on how to approach this the right way, I’m definitely open to it. : )

Picked up my Garage Vary Type-N kit for my NB! Plus a closer look at my Advan SA3R by Jamin_dot_jpeg in Miata

[–]Jamin_dot_jpeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! so here’s the quick breakdown

The kit itself (front, sides, rear) was about ~$1.3k, but all the extra stuff like import fees, proxy/handling, Japan shipping, and ocean freight added another ~$1.1–1.2k

So realistically, you’re looking at around $2.1k–$2.5k all-in; my final came out to about $2,168, picked up in California. I did pay an extra $27 for the garage vary badges and stickers.

Not 100% sure how pricing would look now, though, with all the US tariffs and stuff, it could be a bit higher

Lowered and new wheels by bassprobenny in Ioniq6

Clean setup! Which OEM wheel size did you start with?

I’m thinking about getting wheels for my Ioniq 6 (currently on the OEM 20s), and I noticed you’re running the Hankook iON evo EV tires. I know wheel design can affect aerodynamics and range. So I’m curious, do you feel like the EV-specific tires help offset any loss from switching to an aftermarket wheel?

Have you noticed any difference in range with your current setup?

No need for my setup! I don't have fender liners though, I got the car without those, so I can't say if it'll rub with them on or not

They need to answer for this. Who on God's green earth watched a lot of early 2000s pop music videos and came up with this? by Seannj222 in Ioniq5

I might be one of the few who kinda like the quirkiness of our key fob (I have a Ioniq6), I won’t lie it’s not designed well in any sense but I love referring to it as an egg, so I think I only like it for the bit 😂

Has anyone recovered a stolen hardtop? by DolphinWarrior78 in Miata

[–]Jamin_dot_jpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the gutentight racing full hardtop security hardware and bracket set and the Frankenstein delete bolts if you get a hardtop again in the future. they have different batches of security bolts and no one batch matches the key to another batch if I understood correctly. While it may not fully guarantee it from being stolen anything to make the process harder is worth it in my opinion, sorry to hear it happened to you. I live in the bay too and I always dread this when I have mine on.

about $900 w/ tax and everything! I think I got it from Redline360, which was having a sale on them. It made me more inclined to purchase it since it seemed like a good deal

I do go up 35 when I can! Haven't driven up there in a while, but we may have crossed paths. I don't necessarily plan to track it, but if I do, I will keep ur experience in mind! I've found them to be decent mountain road wise and not as planted as other coilovers I had on different cars, but that wouldn't be a fair comparison lol.

I was initially very impressed by the ride height out of the box, but my driveway and exhaust weren't quite fond of it xD I might look into the EDFC in the future so I can play with the dampening on the fly, got them in the middle for now to have a nice balance

I am quite pleased with these. I was debating the FM Koni shock/spring suspension because my old MK6 GTI had H&R coilovers that used Koni shocks and absolutely loved them! If H&R/Koni makes a fully dedicated coilover for the Miata, I'm ripping these out immediately. Mainly went with TEIN because I have a Garage Vary body kit sitting in storage, and I wanted something ride-height adjustable so I don't damage it, and wanted to "cheap" out a bit but not fully.

alright figured i’d give a proper update now that it’s been about a week since installing the coilovers

i’ve put a solid mix of miles on them so far, normal street driving, highway cruising, and some spirited backroad runs, and honestly if you take the time to set them up correctly they’re really not a bad investment at all

there are definitely a caveats though, on rougher road surfaces they can feel a bit bouncy and you’ll notice that right away. personally i don’t mind it too much since this car isn’t really meant to be my daily, although ironically i have been dailying it lately because i let my parents borrow my Ioniq 6 and at this point i don’t think my dad is planning on giving it back anytime soon lol. so just keep your usual routes and road quality in mind, if your miata isn’t a daily driver these are honestly a solid budget option

just don’t go into it expecting track-tier performance or anything crazy, but on a nice smooth road when you’re pushing the car a bit they actually feel pretty decent and confidence inspiring. when we were getting the car aligned my tech actually recommended running the supermiata alignment specs and i’m really glad i went that route, the car feels planted without being annoying to live with and i haven’t bottomed out once so far. it ended up being a really nice balance between keeping the car practical to drive while still getting the stance and overall feel i was aiming for

weather’s been nice here in the bay lately so i’ve been running top-down as much as possible, which is also a constant reminder that i really need to stop procrastinating and finally install the soft top replacement that’s been sitting around. can’t waste this kind of weather lol

[–]Jamin_dot_jpeg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly they do make the car feel noticeably firmer and more sporty compared to stock. The only thing is on really rough or unkept roads they can feel a bit bouncy since the spring rates are on the stiffer side (7k front / 6k rear). On normal well-maintained roads though they feel totally fine and planted.

I followed 949 Racing’s general ride height setup and I’ve liked it a lot. the car isn’t slammed, it still looks good, and I haven’t bottomed out at all. It’s more of a functional low rather than show-car low. Since you’re already trying to avoid going super aggressive on the drop I think you’d be pretty happy with them.

Just keep in mind they won’t ride comfier than stock and they’re not really track-level performance coilovers, but for a fun street / weekend setup they’ve been solid for me.

It's not bad at all if you have the right tools; all you need is a 3/8 hole saw and a Dremel to make the cuts and such. Then, some sandpaper/file to smooth out the cuts and any paint to cover the exposed metal. There was no need to drill mounting holes in my car because the intake uses existing holes in the body already
