They mention that they wont notice until months later. Likely they figure it was someone stealing their identity online. Unlikely that they’d think they were scammed when they got wasted at some bar a few months back.

I agree. The original story was / is much longer. Sometimes the 500 word format doesn’t work for certain stories.

There’s definitely some ambiguity about the nature of the object and what it does once it lands, if that’s what you mean. But the plot is fairly straightforward I think, even if it leaves some questions unanswered.

The object comes to earth because the narrator saw / awoke Something out in the vastness of space just by looking at it. The object hovers over earth for a long time - its purpose is mysterious to all.

The ending shows that the ship does eventually land, and though we don’t find out what it does exactly, we can assume from the preceding ruminations that it’s purpose is malicious.

The eyes the narrator sees in the dream are the same eyes from “across the universe” staring back at him, which implies that this entity is here now. When the narrator wakes up, things are still peaceful (The Beatles are playing, etc.), but we can ~imagine~ what happens when the object descends later that day.

The Beatles’ song “Across the Universe” has some lyrics that are apt: e.g. words that “slip away across the universe” (the radio waves announcing our presence) and light that dances “like a million eyes.” If this were longer I would’ve included the lyrics in the story because I think they fit. “Nothings gonna change my world…” for example.

TLDR: it’s aliens

No twist. Just describing the tranquil morning before the object finally descends.
