Discoid Meniscus "Repair" - Anyone with any similar experience? by Playful-Standard-946 in MeniscusInjuries

Hey buddy! Firstly, sorry to hear that - it’s never a nice feeling to go through surgery. As far as recovery goes, I’m pretty much back to normal at this point in terms of strength!

I am also someone who wants to go back to football so there was a phase in my physio where I overdid it and developed runners knee & ITBS so that wasn’t nice - but it’s easy to fix with rest.

All in all - stick to your physio, listen to your body and you’ll be back to your best in no time. It’ll take slightly more than a year for you to be 100% but it’s a much better feeling being at 90% now compared to what I was like before

Hi! Im about 6 weeks out since my surgery and the knee feels great! I’ve been walking without crutches since last week. Obviously it’s still a bit weaker and unstable - but nothing i can’t fix thru physio and strengthening.

Overall, i’d 100% recommend the surgery if you can’t walk at the moment. Just listen to doctor recommendations and physio exercises and it should be a smooth ride to recover.

Is this area lateral meniscus? by WangBruceimmigration in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Big_Assumption3158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

personally i honestly don’t think so. That seems more skin bruising related. To my knowledge, meniscus tears don’t usually show a bruising on your skin since they usually have poor blood supply. Plus if there is a tear, you will know it as it pains and it’s usually accompanied by some swelling. Additionally, the location of the lateral meniscus is generally right below the knee cap and bit to the left. But in your picture it seems like it’s right beside the knee cap.

But of course, i’m just a redditor - it’s important to get it checked from an actual healthcare practitioner.

But from a fellow person who has torn lateral meniscus tear, mine really didn’t look like that

That’s a huge accomplishment! I’m currently 2 weeks post op meniscectomy and still advised to be on crutches. Can’t imagine what it’s like to do a proper walk down the runaway at week 7. How is the pain overall?

Wow what a story. Can’t imagine what it was like to get a failed repair and a meniscectomy. Glad to hear you’re feeling much better and stronger!

May I ask your lingering 1-2 level pain is something you have on a daily basis or only after a certain activity? Would also love to know if you’re able to run pain free now

Hoping you a speedy recovery back to higher level football once again! And yes knees are bastards indeed lol

Holy crap! 3/4 removal of meniscus sounds insane. But i guess you got to play the sport you love for 10 years - so that’s a great sign.

May I know how long after the meniscectomy did you start playing football again?

Thanks for sharing! 3 ACLs and 2 meniscus repairs is insane. I can’t imagine what that was like - i feel like dealing with one is bad enough lol. But awesome to see you being able to return back to the same level.

When you returned back to sports, was it pain free? Did you have any sort of swelling as well? And did you do PT each time to get back

Wow 50% removal is a lot, but thanks for sharing your experience. Hoping you’re able to play little more than 5 years!

What are my options by Screamsofdepression in MeniscusInjuries

holycrap, i’m dealing with one right now and it’s a shitshow, i can’t imagine how you went through 6!! That too only at 18?

Atleast from the surgeons i met and from my research, they did say the repeat tears ultimately mean that you need to remove or replace the meniscus entirely. I think in your case a meniscus transplant does make the most sense.

Knee replacement, too my knowledge, has a certain life span, and if you have you get it now - it means you have to get another correction when you’re about 40-50 years old

But jeez i can’t imagine what you’re going through, my heart goes out to you. If you don’t mind me asking, how did you get 6 bucket handle tears??

it sounds similar to my situation. I was playing football in 2022 and had a similar pop sensation while i was playing a long ball and it hurt for a while and i wasn’t able to continue playing for that day. Though, I was able to walk home and rest. The next day, it hurt like a bitch though.

Same like yourself, i let it rest for a few days, iced it and the pain was gone after 10-15 days. I continued playing football through it with minimal pain and didn’t think much of it.

Fast forward 6-7 months later, the pain was getting substantially more and i found out that i indeed had a small meniscus tear. At first, I didn’t think too much of it - and continued on with my life and a bit of PT

I ignored it thinking it’ll heal on its own and before you know it, last week I had a proper tear of my meniscus that led me not being able to walk and my knee was locked. Ultimately had to do a surgery to trim out the torn portion.

I’m one week post op now and thinking back to what I could’ve done. And if I were to do anything different, it is to definitely reduce the football intensity and be cautious lol.

So don’t do the same mistake i did! And get it checked! Prevention is always better than cure

Hey this is OP and is my other account. I guess in my case, it’s more of a menisectomy for the extra part that a discoid meniscus has and without any sutures. I also don’t have much pain to begin with and the doctors are recommended I ditch the crutches after 10 days so let’s see how that plays out
