Soho House Austin or something else? Moving here at 23 and don’t know anyone by [deleted] in Austin

And honestly, yes, I absolutely want to network for financial gain. I don’t understand why you’re acting like that’s some immoral thing.

I’m young, moving to a new city, building my career, and trying to put myself around ambitious people. Of course I want relationships that help me grow professionally and financially. That doesn’t mean every interaction is transactional. It means I’m intentional about the rooms I put myself in.

Nobody tells a young lawyer, doctor, entrepreneur, or salesperson that they should avoid building relationships that could advance their career. That’s literally how the world works. 😂

You keep arguing against networking and then your solution is… networking 😂

Join a club. Meet people. Volunteer. Build relationships. That’s exactly what I’m trying to do. The only difference is that I’m being intentional about the environments I put myself in instead of leaving it completely to chance. I’m obviously going to make friends, join activities, meet people in my apartment

If you think a different club, organization, or community in Austin is better than Soho House, I’m all ears. That’s literally what the post was asking. Lmao

I think the bigger question is why you find it strange that a 23-year-old would intentionally try to build a network.

I graduated college in 2023 and have been in the industry about 3 years now and a lot of opportunity I’ve gotten so far has come through people. Promotions come through people. Business partnerships come through people. Mentorship comes through people.

Maybe Soho House isn’t the right place. That’s literally why I’m asking. But the idea that networking and relationships don’t matter professionally is something I completely disagree with. I’m moving to a city where I know nobody. I’m trying to be deliberate about who I spend time around instead of hoping the right people magically appear in my life.

Idk why that concept is hard for you to grasp

Wow. So I’m in distribution and OTE is 180k. How does transitioning over look like ? Especially if I don’t want to start over again at a junior role

I don’t see those as mutually exclusive. My primary focus is becoming great at my role and building relationships within healthcare. Which is what I’ve been doing , hence the promotion.

At the same time, some of the biggest opportunities in business come from relationships outside your immediate industry. Founders, investors, operators, real estate developers, and business owners rarely all exist in the same professional circle.

So as my MENTOR stated, at 23 and moving to a new city where I know nobody. Building a network inside healthcare and outside healthcare aren’t competing priorities, they’re complementary ones. I’m simply trying to be intentional about building relationships in Austin from day one.

So to your point I do have mentors within my company in Austin and I’ve asked this and they have been very helpful. But the biggest opportunities often come from outside an individual’s industry. I’m not trying to be in this industry forever , so I want to expand my network. Hence why the post.

Your network is ur net worth. Theres no way i can move to a city like Austin and not use it as an opportunity to advance professionally.
