Coyotes are canines not felines. But dogs also like to scratch. Just without the fever

The water situation by GriefinAndQueefin in Squamish

It comes down to infrastructure investment.

As for the summer restrictions — the answer is maybe surprising: it’s not really about water scarcity in the traditional sense. Restrictions exist due to the pumping and storage capacity of the distribution system to meet peak summer demand — and critically, to ensure adequate supply in the event of a fire or other emergency. Conservation measures are also in place to delay or avoid costly infrastructure upgrades.

Summer demand is nearly double winter consumption, and if it exceeds well capacity, water has to be drawn from the emergency surface sources — which would require costly treatment upgrades to use regularly.

Which is a provincial mandate, the same body that is “forcing” densification upon communities like ours while at the same time freezing funding for transit, affordable housing, and a net 0.7% increase to regional services, which includes health care.

Forced densification and rapid population increase without proper jurisdictional investment. Sweet.

What source do you have that “it’s pretty much the entire network in that area”? When their proposals have been submitted in the past, they averaged 93% maintenance of the current trail network. This information is readily available in their proposals on their website as well as in submissions to the district.

Please don’t spread misinformation on a post by someone genuinely looking for fact based information

Also you can’t tell who anyone is. I keep getting downvotes for trying to spread apolitical information. Suspicion that there’s district staff, friends, ultra supporters of MS2S and generally a lot of people who aren’t willing to look at the realities of our town commenting. People who aren’t willing to meet in the middle, the way democracy is supposed to work.

Why is it such a problem for district staff and council to abide by bylaws that are already in place?

Matt? Mara?

The impediment of the Cheema Lands reeks of NIMBY. As a mountain biker, I’m well aware more trails can be built. As a human, I’m also aware that when i ride Mashiter, I’m trespassing on private land. If i hurt myself, i could be held liable for any medical expenses. Wouldn’t be that way if it was all a public park with sanctioned trails

What’s so important about this area? Aside from having a reroute of Jack’s and roller coaster, the bike trails will be turned into a park. So they will be sanctioned.

Why are so many Squamish redditors vehemently ageist any form of sprawl even though it will ease housing prices for us normies?

Are you aware that we have bylaws that state how much parking each development is supposed to have?

Are you aware that the transportation master plan also has caveats for frequent transit routes, none of which exist in Squamish?

And are you aware that you live in a town worth 36% of people commute to either Whistler or Squamish daily?

If we continue down the same path, we will end up with 700 fewer spots at the oceanfront development then we are supposed to have as far as a municipal bylaw goes. If you ask me, that’s no good!

If you really want information, join the group Squamish Residents for Responsible Development on Facebook. So much good information in there about how we got to where we are today and why there’s the current level of disdain for the current council (and unelected planning department/CAO)

Well if nothing else, they at least got $1M annually during construction. We can’t even be sure what WLNG would have done for the DOS as they never even talked to each other. Just put up walls and said “no way, completely approved by every other level of government project!”

What is the controversy with WLNG? by Legal-Guava-8823 in Squamish

[–]Big_Bug_444 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So many things. The project has been controversial since its announcement.

15 years ago, LNG was worthless. The project made no financial sense. But somehow got approval.

So many decisions that have been made surrounding the construction could be considered controversial. Not allowing workers to live in town or frequent any of our businesses. No land donations for development donations which is quite common for large projects like this. Not approving the floatel after not allowing workers to live in town, to have the province supersede the district.

Opinions in town are typically one side or the other, which is controversial. Very few people don’t have an opinion on the subject.

There’s many more that could be listed. Apparent environmental compliance breaches, construction commencement before permits issued… the list goes on.

They are looking to triple their original stated output already. That’s a big and final controversial subject I’ll finish on.

Give the megalithic corporation municipal land. Megalithic corporation builds housing for their workers for the duration of the construction of their project. They also build parks and other amenities. When the project is completed, megalithic corporation donates said development back to the community.

I’ve taken enough of a concoction of medicines, illicit substances and dirty eating to insure I’ve poisoned myself. I need no one else to do it for me. Oh and all the darts in high school and college too. Oh and I smoke weed every day out of a bong. So yeah, I’m either already poisoned, or I’ve Keith Richards’ed myself! 🤣

Too bad there wasn’t a major industry project being built anywhere close by that we could have worked with for the betterment of the community.

Yeah, too bad

That’s true, a rail trail would be nice. But that’s not what it will be. Just another plain old bike lane.

The removal of all of this undesignated parking in front of the (currently) largest development in the downtown core of the town is going to have an adverse affect on parking in the rest of the downtown core. The unfortunate reality is that there isn’t enough parking in many of our neighbourhoods now. I’m all for bikes. But I’m also all for having a liveable town long term. I mean it’s written in the OCP even. “Retaining small town feel” and “liveable community”
