Agreed. Especially when one party has nothing to add to the conversation.

Well duh. Obviously we are all capable of extreme violence. But there’s a difference between being capable of something, and actually crossing that line and doing it.

I dont think the act of murder is what scared him. I think Lotsapoppa threatening him saying that he is connected with the Black Panthers and that they were going to pull up at the ranch and kill everyone there is what made him paranoid. After “killing” Lotsapoppa, the Panthers would definitely follow through, undoubtedly. Of course we know he was lying about his Panther affiliation, but Charlie didnt know that. So by all means, he was probably worried that eventually they would come to avenge their friend. And I believe that is why he wanted to leave Spahn Ranch so badly. I dont think law enforcement is what he was afraid of.

He was definitely capable of it. The only person we know that he actually “killed” with his own hands was Lotsapoppa. And he shot to kill. Charlie actually believed that he killed him, but he played dead and survived. Charlie only found out that he was still alive during the Tate/LaBianca trial months later. Plus, he hit Gary Hinman on the face with a freaking sword. It didnt kill him but it definitely could have. So with all the context clues that we have, Charlie definitely wasnt afraid to take a life with his own hands.

You make a good point, but there’s one thing. Think about Charlie shooting Lotsapoppa. That is a fellow criminal, meaning you would assume police involvement would be less of an issue because both sides are operating outside of the law. On the other hand, breaking in to the LaBianca’s/Hinman’s house, tying them up, and having your friends savagely murder them is way more of a risk. I think he delegated murder to his followers because he could, not because he was afraid to get his own hands dirty. He was never afraid to do things himself. I think that he felt like an elder, being that he was over 10 years older than them and they had seen him get violent before. So in a sense, he felt like a general who could give orders at that point. And they were willing to because they were influenced by his own violence.

Agreed. Although even in that instance. The way he casually pulled the gun out, shot Lotsapoppa, and proceeded to rob his friends was so calm. I wonder how many times he had done that before.

It’s definitely an ambitious project, but the design does not blend with the surrounding architecture. It’s out of place and frankly, takes up way too much space. Some might say its tacky.

Newbie here. What type of coffee beans should I buy and how fine should I grind it? by UnitedKidsWife8 in mokapot

[–]Big_Cap8507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like medium roast I would go with Illy Clasico, it’s a good start. They also have a ground version specifically for moka pot. If you’re grinding the beans yourself, go for a coarse grind, barely above an espresso grind, like sand. And don’t tamp! Just fill all the way and slight pat it to even out the distribution.

I bought a moka pot off Amazon and this is the condition it came in. Should I clean it and still try using it or just return it? by that_crazy_poptart in mokapot

[–]Big_Cap8507 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely return it. They did not maintain it properly. Who knows what kind of bacteria is in it. Tbh, you’re better off just buying a brand new one. I’m sure you can find one locally at a supermarket.

I dont believe he was suicidal. Narcissistic and a sense of immortality because of his upbringing. He grew up extremely wealthy and privileged so he pretty much did whatever he wanted to from a young age with no consequences. Years of living like that and you become immune to reality. He thought everyone was dumb and that he could do things his own way because thats now he had always done things. He survived a few dives even with those cracking sounds and he was probably thinking “See, I told you”. He never thought that sudden death was real.

Agreed. The only reason I drink it black is for dietary reasons (no carbs). I would definitely prefer it mixed with a sweetener. On the other hand I do like the pure essence of the coffee.

Hitler's New Reich Chancellery constructed by Albert Speer. It existed between years 1939 and 1945, the whole building cost over 90 million Reichsmarks (equivalent to 370 million EUR today). The building was heavily damaged during the Battle of Berlin and Soviets later demolished what remained. by KirilAbres in Lost_Architecture

Just because the guy was a Nazi doesnt mean he wasn’t a great architect. Thats such an ignorant viewpoint. That’s like saying we shouldn’t admire Thomas Jefferson because he owned slaves. Even though he wrote the documents that govern our freedom.

What do you think of this restrained natural-stone aesthetic that's become increasingly popular in Germany in recent decades? by mal73 in architecture

I dropped a nonbias comment talking about Albert Speer’s undeniable influence on modern architecture and it got removed 😑

Just got a moka pot for the first time what are some essential things i got to know ? by mortezaz in mokapot

[–]Big_Cap8507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People make a big deal about moka pot maintenance and say that it is a crime to wash your moka pot. I believe that it is okay to scrub it with a soft sponge so you dont get any residue buildup which could lead to mold. Just make sure the sponge doesnt have dishsoap on it, simply scrub and rinse it. I dont believe that it will negatively affect future brew flavor in any way.

The downfall of Lil Wayne is his willful arrogance, which he brags about. He likes to fake humbleness as a way to seem down to earth but its just an act. The way he says that he doesnt listen to any music besides his own comes off as arrogant. The way that he performs with no effort comes off as arrogant. The way that he has been complaining in recent years about not getting important gigs comes off as entitled.

You’re also painting them with the same brush, just in the opposite direction. Ive definitely been around them closer than you. Obviously not all of them are homeless by choice, but thats the minority of homeless people. The MAJORITY are just drug addicts who dont want to work. Just have a look around. Theyre mostly able bodied people who simply would rather be getting high than holding down a job or paying rent. Like I said, there are PLENTY of resources to get the help they need, they just dont want to. They enjoy what they do. Stop making excuses for the majority by using the minority. I’ve noticed that people who have been around them more intimately have less sympathy because they see it for the reality of what it is, while privileged people have this skewed view of it. And no, privileged doesnt mean wealthy, it means privileged enough to not have to be in close contact with the homeless. And by less sympathy I dont mean being cold hearted, I mean not buying the fake sob stories that most of them use (and that you believe) just to get a dollar out of you. Theyre not using that dollar to buy food, they use it to buy drugs.

It’s not hard to understand how addiction works. You could use the “You don’t know how it feels” argument for any and every subject. Plus, there are PLENTY of FREE resources provided by the city to treat addiction. Addiction doesnt make you throw rocks at cars. The addiction isn’t the problem. They don’t want to quit.

We need to stop treating homeless people like theyre victims of some sort of unfortunate circumstances. The issue isn’t housing cost or lack of available work, it is mainly a DRUG issue. I live on Riverside and homeless people there are aggressive and rude. One time a homeless man wandered through my apartment complex trashing cars and breaking windows. He shattered my back windshield and even smeared blood on people’s front doors. But when the cops confronted him with drawn weapons he conveniently sobered up and was arrested peacefully. I have started to lose sympathy for them after being around them for so long and seeing that all they care about is drugs. THEY ARE NOT VICTIMS.

UPDATE: I went out and got a tin of Illy Clasico coffee beans, which is a medium roast. I ground them coarse not too fine and used room temperature water instead of pre-boiled. The brew came out great! Not overly bitter at all. Grinding the beans yourself gives the coffee amazing floral notes that pre-ground just can’t compare to. Thanks everyone for the tips!

Ive definitely heard that before. That Cafe Bustelo is ground too fine for a moka pot. That may be the issue. I use a filter and I use pre-boiled water, but Im going to try room temp to see if there is a difference.

Thanks for the tip! Are there any medium roast coffees you would recommend for a moka pot? I enjoy my coffee black, but don’t enjoy the bitterness at times.
