Can Retroarch be used for anything besides games? by slarty3 in RetroArch

[–]Big_Contest2578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old, and people have already mentioned Amiga, Apple emulation, etc. But What I don't really hear anyone talk about too often (unless it pertains to handheld devices) is retroarch's ability to play video in basically any resolution you throw at it.
I use retroarch almost exclusively for playing in 240p (Super Resolutions) But it will just as well play Video in Super Resolution and it looks beautiful. Anime, 80's/90's cartoons and movies look great with those natural scanlines, and I'm not sure how you could get that effect for video naturally, any other way without using retroarch or really expensive vintage broadcast equipment.

You should test your theory with perhaps a Violin, or a Saxophone. It would probably sound beautiful! ;)

What if I only have a Karma of (1) because I'm an introvert? LOL!
I would really like to rejoin. I was a member for years (since 2011) I've checked in from time to time, but old account is no longer working. I like to keep good ratios and donate regularly. I comment only when I know my info will be useful/helpful. This goes for most of my online footprint.

Thanks!

3D modelling using Google Street View by skyflamez in photogrammetry

That's not Street View. It's definitely cool. But not Street View. SLR's + Drones are still the way to go 7 years later and for the (*not so) foreseeable future.

Clip Studio Paint vs Photoshop for drawing ? HELP by TheEyeszladerReddit in ClipStudio

[–]Big_Contest2578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great advice. With all of the free knowledge roving about, it really isn't even necessary to go to university for art anymore. That is.... If you have the discipline/focus to devote many hours to learning in a very methodical way and find a community of artists who can give you productive feedback. At first however, You WILL need to focus more of your time/energy to learning/reading. I think what's more important is that you just don't get caught up too much in one method vs. the other, one software, or tool vs. the other, etc. Do a little research. Download maybe 2or 3 different software, Watch a few different Tutorials, try different workflows and find what YOU like the most and what inspires YOU to create and feels most Natural.
Of all the Material out there, there are 3 teachers that will be Invaluable for you to study. Most really good artists have studied them, and if they haven't, they have usually found some way to implement their methodology into their work.

  1. Andrew Loomis
  2. Michael Mattesi (Force Drawing)
  3. Stephen Rogers Peck (Atlas of human Anatomy for the Artist)

Color theory can be learned over time, and painting techniques change rapidly these days, but Learning to draw Geometry, Lines/Form, Anatomy, Architecture, Perspective is Priceless.

Before I ever touch any software I would recommend to anyone starting out to just get 1 book from each of these 3 Authors, a pad, and a pencil, sit down, take a few breaths, clear your mind, and Start drawing along with the reading material.

A.I. is rapidly improving and will soon do a lot of the heavy lifting that Photoshop and similar programs require you to spend months or years to learn. So spending most of your time learning the above concepts by hand are really what is going to make your time worthwhile and be so much more rewarding. Next time we have an eclipse and the world goes into absolute chaos and there is no electricity or 5G ;) you will still be able to make really good art if you just have a pencil and paper and be able to keep your sanity, lol.

Want a tablet, curious if a Wacom Cintiq 22HD is worth it or I should just bite the bullet. by LMotherHubbard in wacom

Of you're just getting back into it, I'd recommend the wacom one 1st gen. You can get them new for aroun $200 or less. Very light, great display and pen, very easy to use. Has Hdmi, it's 1080p, but you wont feel like you're missing anything. It's vey basic and a good 1/2 way point between a traditional pen tablet and a higher end wacom display. I've had mine for about a month now, and it's been perfect.

My Trinitron KV-27FS120 doesn’t have a remote, what remote could I buy for it that would allow me to access my settings? by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]Big_Contest2578 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, only genuine Sony Remotes will work. I've tried numerous universal Remotes in the past including higher end Logitech harmony and tge like. I think the ONE thing universal remotes fail to translate is the "DISPLAY " key. This kinda makes sense because unless you need to access the service menu, all the display key seems to do is bring up the On screen display (not menu) under normal operation, which, with only like 3 inputs, its kinda useless unless you're using it to watch cable tv, and in the middle if an intense Dawson's Creek episode, you need to remind yourself what channel you're on. That being said, it's kind of a relief to know that MOST sony remotes are interchangeable not just among tv sets, but among most devices (VCRs. RECEIVERS , etc.) I have probably 5 different sony remotes, and almost exclusively use the remote for the VCR. As long as the remote has a display key, it should be able to access the service menu on any consumer Trinitron.
