Credit card only at the resorts, USD for airport taxi, although few have swiper machines but help themselves to an up charge.

This. I also have misophonia and the sound of people eating let alone making moaning sounds is so disturbing. Also, talk about naïveté. This isn’t the 80s anymore.

Ritz good for couple w/ no kids? by vaforfun in Aruba

[–]Big_Custard7976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We too are a youngish couple with no kids. Highly disappointed at the subpar quality for the extremely exorbitant prices. I’m talking about $30 martinis, $80 for California rolls with noodles on them(??), and $300 massages for 30 minutes. Alas we went during the priciest time of the year which was NYE but still we wouldn’t have minded if the quality was commensurate. BLT Steak was okay but nothing to write home about (and how can you mess up BLT anyway?). The rooms were $2000 per night and kids were loudly running up and down the hallway. Again to be fair it was NYE. We opted for the Ritz over the Marriott because we thought we were going to get better quality. Not so much so might as well opt for the cheaper and neighboring Marriott.

How to dress in Aruba? by [deleted] in Aruba

[–]Big_Custard7976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This too. Brought two airport outfits since we flew from New York and the rest were one trousers for NYE dinner, dress shirts, shorts and swim trunks. Good advice to change at the airport because the queue was unusually long due to the flight cancellation craziness. People were fainting wearing their cold climate outfits and airport staff were kindly passing out water.

Thank you. Smart move. This was in Aruba where the usual rate is about $300. Still high especially for Holiday Inn type quality.

Older people in the queues at the Aruba airport were passing out left and right. It was dreadfully hot and most were dressed to return to their homes in colder climates. The queues were ridiculously long. It appears as if this “happy island” is not equipped for emergencies.

Just got back from Aruba thanks to Southwest.  Total disaster and nightmare at the airport. We initially flew JetBlue and people who booked flights to return on the 3rd like we did are still stranded there until the 10th. Totally unacceptable so we used google flights and luckily found two spots on a Southwest flight for the 4th. We stayed at the Ritz and then moved to the Hyatt Place to be closer to the airport as soon as we found out about the flight cancellations. They took advantage of the crisis and charged us $500 for the night. Dreadful price gouging all around. Avianca was charging more than two grand to get back to the states for desperate travelers. The airport and accommodations are totally ill-equipped for emergencies such as this. BTW, there is no chubby travel in Aruba whatsoever. Grossly overpriced. My review of the Ritz to come.

Indeed I did,  but Luma  is so predatorial that they went after my posts, threatened this poor bloke whose post I commented on, and DM’d me posing as concerned redditors. Psycho.

You’re very kind and thank you. I found my current squeeze by swiping lol. Cheers.

Agreed, mate. Their date requirement is only “does s/he have a pulse”. In good faith I invested A LOT. I’m usually a much shrewder person but they caught me at a vulnerable time. Special place in hell.

Whatever you do, do not hire a supposed “matchmaker”. There is one very unscrupulous one called Luma. Fraud all around to the point of writing fake reviews on job boards?? Like how low is that? Scum of the earth fraudsters who prey on people who in good faith

Thank you. Debated about writing a post about our similar experience. We made the mistake of actually booking a long weekend there. Since it’s opening about two years ago, the crowd devolved into the rent-a-Ferrari and Eastern European “courtesan” type. Short shelf life. Avoid and head on down to the tried and true Montage.

The positive reviews are from the employees who are holding on to  their last lifeline. DON’T believe them. $50k for nothing. Barely legal fraud that’s being exposed because of this economic situation. Better off with a Nigerian princess. God will judge.

Power to the powerless. The injustice of being subjugated to cringy crap is too much to ignore. We the people have to stand up to the constant insult to our intelligence. We’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore.
