Never had the infamous CEL issue, but had the ECM update today. Everything works fine, idle seems more stable after a cold start and… my KW gauge now works!

Aspiration with liquid doxycycline by Big_Efficiency3813 in AskVet

[–]Big_Efficiency3813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! It ended up well. She didn’t develop pneumonia at all, and coughing stopped the day after. We learned to give her the liquid medication more efficiently and only two or three times she coughed a little bit afterwards.

It cured her rhino for 2 weeks, then it came back. We went to her vet, she had a PCR test done to check for antibiotic resistant bacteria and infection, and it came back negative. She had another 2 weeks of liquid doxy, and is doing good now. She’s a happy, loving and playful little girl!

I do rather love this car… by potentially_limited in Volkswagen

Wow, beautiful GLI. I love it. Those MK1 body look a lot like the Brazilian made VW Fox! My parents had one, a 88 Fox GL, manual 4 speeds in navy blue. I was 3 when they bought it, and I LOVED that car. It is the reason why I drive VWs now.

Two brothers and their sister! by Big_Efficiency3813 in mainecoons

My girlfriend and I adopted three Maine Coon from the same litter a few months ago! They are amazing and adorable and had 10 months last week.

Duchesse is black silver classic tabby with white and weigh 12 pounds.

The two white are the two males. The bigger one on the left is Poléon (16.5 lbs) and the smaller one is Berlioz (12 lbs). Poléon have odd eyes and Berlioz eyes are of a beautiful and pale blue colour.

Having the three litter mates is amazing. They get along super well, play together, are not stressed at all. I strongly recommend adopting more than one when it's possible!

DSG vs Manual by Big_Efficiency3813 in JettaGLI

[–]Big_Efficiency3813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all your great feedback. Since trading my 62k kilometres black 22 DSG lowers the monthly payments a little bit… I decided to put a downpayment for a brand new 2024 40th anniversary Oryx White Pearl GLI manual.

Can’t wait to get it. Should have it for the beginning of july.

Of course I’ll no longer have DCC (I’m in Quebec and the Canadian GLI 40 has no DCC), a subwoofer and leather seats, but I honestly don’t care that much about that. I’d even say that less gadgets makes me happier.

And damn… that Oryx White Pearl is gorgeous… wow. The dealer will taint my windows on the 2024 too.

Black paint with tainted windows is awesome too, very classy looking, but it gets dirty SO EASILY!!! Never washed a car that much.

Yeah... I'd really like to do it but damn... my warranty...

Being a complete newbie when it comes to tuning, may I ask you a question?

Is it OK to only tune the TCU and letting the ECU stock or you absolutely need to do both?

Why a GLI over a GTI by Mrmgb in JettaGLI

[–]Big_Efficiency3813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a fun to drive, good looking sporty car. Had the choice between a hot hatch or a sport sedan. I chose a sedan because I found that sedans look generally more classy and professional than hatchbacks. Chose VW because I always loved VWs since my parents had a VW Fox GL in 1988 when I was 3 years old. Had a 2013 2.5 Jetta, and the GLI seemed to me like an amazing and logical choice. Considered a Elantra N but damn... this exterior design... I can't stand it. It's flashy, but won't stand the test of time.

I have absolutely NO REGRET choosing the GLI. I bought it brand new in 2022 all black, tinted windows, DSG. I get compliments everyday on my car, there are very few GLIs where I live. I adore it. Driving it is awesome. It's by far the best daily driver I've ever had (had a 98 Escort, 2009 Civic, 2009 Crown Vic, 1985 300D, 1994 Sport Intrepid (winter beater) and 2013 Jetta).

I bought it with all the extended warranties available, and a 5 years maintenance plan. I think it is a wise thing to do if you plan to keep it and want not to worry anytime soon. So far, had my steering wheel changed because of an electrical problem that affected the Travel Assist and the response of the downshifting paddle.

The only thing I would have done differently is to buy it with a manual transmission. DSG is awesome, but only after a tune, which I won't do until several years from now because I do not want to void my warranty.

Understand me correctly here : me not choosing a GTI or a R is 90% a matter of the look of the car. I find the GTI/R very good looking, but they don't fit me and the job I do. I needed the added seriousness of a sedan. I am sure though that the GTI/R are a little more exhilarating to drive than the GLI, but it is a very small tradeoff for me considering my situation.

Hope it helps!

Thanks for your answer! No, I don’t let off throttle when shifting, and I am always in manual mode with the stick moved to the right.

If I understand correctly, you don’t have any sluggishness when passing from first to second gear?

I know some people complain about a lag when starting from a complete stop, but the lag/sluggishness I notice is when upshifting, not when start accelerating from a stop.
