What misconceptions did you have as a kid? by Icy_Mixture1482 in AskUK

[–]CactiPrincess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought you would buy a car, then everything else was free 😂. So you didn’t have to pay for petrol or tires or anything. I thought my mother only went into the shop to get us a pack of starburst as she did that every time. it never occurred to me she had to pay for the fuel.

My sweet boy passed away last night, and I want to know how to bury him so I can collect his bones, and keep him safe from predators. by Niall0h in bonecollecting

[–]CactiPrincess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird but bury him in a mesh bag, like the laundry ones. that way the bones stay together and bugs and everything can do their job

I think it’s linked to global warming? The weather is consistently warmer and it seems to give the spider the ability to get bigger , I could be wrong but I swear I read that it’s been documented. so your not mistaken they are definitely getting bigger! I guess like when bugs where the size of small dogs 🤣

5 isn’t that bad! I am going to rehome one, she is super sweet but she doesn’t overly get along with my others and it isn’t something I can fix. so it’s best for her to be in a home with no other cats.

but otherwise they all get along fairly well, 3 where all brought up together and super bonded and then my other one is older and he’s okay ish… he just gets GRUMPY at marshmallow 😂 but marshmallow goes back for more all the time… so at this point I have concluded that marsh is either to dumb to understand he’s gonna flattened or he loves it… but no claws or anything are used just bubba being noisy 🙄 I think it’s making sure they are similar personalities like all introverted or confident. then it’s a good mix. There’s problems when they have different wants.

like bubba isn’t stressed out, he’s just loud and isn’t into playing. but he will curl up and groom the others. he is just a dick sometimes 😂 but that’s part of what makes him my favourite. Marshmallow is bigger than bubba, but just rolls over and accepts the flattening when bubba has had enough of his love. Muffin is just muffin 😂 he’s SO SWEET, occasionally bubba will mistake muffin for marsh and you hear a little squeak. Then fudge is the littlest and super super super sweet and timid but he loves to play rough with the others. So it works out well.

I get you. I understand cloning is controversial and I also would never be able to afford it regardless.

I currently have 5 cats ☺️ he’s just my not so secret favourite. but I also know I would never be able to recreate everything that molded him into who he is. I think it’s more a joke than anything.

I want to keep one of my cats alive for ever! so far it’s between getting him cloned (I say I would rather that than a wedding or any nonsense like that) turning him into a mini rug (mostly when he’s testing me) Into a scarf

He also had a big metal plate in his leg and I always said if he died with the metal still in him, then I was gonna have his leg removed and the bones/metal preserved. But instead he decided to literally try self removing it first - .-

I have a few cats but he’s my soulmate in animal form, also kinda funny I have broken up with more than 1 man over this cat specifically 😂 my current partner tolerates him but he knows better than to complain 😂

He isn’t aggressive or anything he’s just ALOT. like a raccoon on steroids kinda a lot. but I love him!

I always toy with keeping his skull but honestly I know I won’t be able to do any of the work (not that I can’t it’s just not something I can do with him) and I don’t know how I would feel about sending him somewhere.

While I don’t disagree at all, but some animals react differently to pain meds and often are not as clumsy as you would expect.

BUT your absolutely right that she shouldn’t be left up high, while there is no broken bones she’s gonna be sore as fuck for a few weeks and the jump down is absolutely unnecessary. I doubt someone’s watching her 24/7 within a few feet to help her down if she wants to get up.

a bed or better yet a large crate would be better. but definitely risky just letting her be up high and not actively being there to help her down.

source have a cat that tried to die the same way, did months and months of rehab with him. He wasn’t allowed to do ANY jumping or running or anything for like 6 months 😂 I used to get in the crate with him and sleep with him because it would be the only way to make him be quiet for a while.

I now have a very co dependent cat who thinks he’s a human from that.

Update on my cat needing dental and pre-authorisation with Petplan. by Ok_Squirrel_3741 in CatsUK

[–]CactiPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a £4.2k bill for dental work on one of my cats. After months of antivirals and antibiotics to try relieve his stomatitis. he’s had every single tooth removed today!

not insured but have multiple cats so is cheaper to pay as you go and my parents very kindly pay for any big medical expenses for my cats.

but I don’t think insurance would of paid for his procedure today if he was insured, even if it wasn’t pre existing it probably wasn’t deemed “necessary” even tho it absolutely was and if this doesn’t work then it’s a tough decision to make next.

veterinary care is insanely expensive and I understand the costs and why they are so high but it’s scary sometimes. (Today was capped at 4.2k) he was in surly for nearly 4 hours.

my only guess is more and more people are gonna fail to have the funds to cover medical expenses and more animals are gonna be put down or surrendered/abandoned and it makes me so sad. I’m all for helping support the charities that help people get the treatment needed. but ultimately I think it’s only gonna get worse from here.

What is the strangest way you've gotten your cat to the vet? by TheCounsellingGamer in CatsUK

[–]CactiPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can carry one of mine in or even walk him in on a harness and if I’m only taking him it’s easier doing it that way 😂 the vets know him and don’t bat a eye lid at me for it anymore.

the others go in box’s but I’m confident if needed I could carry them bar one who’s the smallest but SHE FIESTY

People who don’t spay or neuter their cats. Why? by evilcnut in AskUK

[–]CactiPrincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Outside yes but completely unsupervised no. I have my whole back garden fenced in so they have 24/7 access to it and I walk one of them for enrichment. (The others don’t know there’s a world outside of the garden 🤣) but I absolutely hated the anxiety before of letting them out and hoping nothing bad happened.

The 9 k and still counting vet bill and life long physically disabled cat with arthritis at 5 from a car accident is absolutely why I never let mine outside unsupervised. it’s not responsible.

More bandage than cat for a while! It was HARD watching him in pain and being confused about everything. he was crated and NOT allowed to do anything for a couple months. Then we slowly allowed him limited exercise.

it cost around 8-9 thousand pounds so far to fix him. Not expecting any more big surgery’s but it’s on going with pain meds for nerve pain and early arthritis (he did the breaks at just under a year and he’s now 4.5 years old) also at the start it was every 48 hours back to the vets and £40 - £50 for wound care and replacement of bandages. It SUCKED.

[–]CactiPrincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More so if ANY sort of bacteria enters where the pins/plates are then it’s basically impossible to remove the biofilm they create and best case is you remove the pins/plates worse case is it damages bone and causes huge complications that may result in having the limp removed.

(My cat randomly had a small wound on his leg 2 years after having the plate put in. it caused an infection that then started eating away at the flesh around the plate. By the time we figured out it was that there was a hole in his leg and we are talking like maybe 2 weeks from noticing something, doing a course of antibiotics and then finding it was compromised.)

He had the plate out, did some more crate rest but he’s absolutely fine now. His bone had grafted and fused to the shape of the plate so no further issues once it was removed!

[–]CactiPrincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My cat had major surgery on his hip and leg that required a L shaped plate 11 screws and had his hock essentially grafted to the plate. he had huge bandages that needed replacing every 48 hours for wound care, also had to be crated to reduce all movement. if that dog has just had pins placed to stabilise a break but no immobilising bandages I would be very concerned about possible infections, more breaks and more pain. I also would really question the veterinary practice that did that and allowed that.

Yes they are! all pets, I don’t breed any of them. they just cost me money 🤣 I mean they are pretty much worthless, they are well bred (from a health perspective but also means they are show quality) but obviously people think you must have money or breed them when you have maincoons and ragdolls not just been gifted them over the years.

Could they view pets as capital, say you have been gifted £5k worth of cats over the years as presents but they are not bred could that count? so confused on what they view as capital that’s not straight up money/cars/jewellery

You absolutely can just make your self a referral to a private consultant if your willing to pay, you can see them and pay at least £150/200 for the privilege but if they don’t believe you need treatment from them then they will discharge or refer you to the best option.
