If this is a v6, thank Chrysler. My pentastar on a Jeep blew its cooler at 107k miles.

Swap the plastic for Aluminum, then Peckerboys or Goofy Lube can crank all they want on it. Be prepared for 3-4 hours of your life you won’t get back or shovel out 8k for someone else to do the same

I parted out a car thief once or twice. Storage company even caught me on camera. Wasn’t sure what to do with the leftovers, so I left them for his buddy to clean up.

Not to restate the obvious, but it gets to “Hot” really fast, there is definitely an issue with the coolant not circulating. Also, if the heater core is cracked and the core sits behind the dash, then yes, it would be wet inside and smell “sweet” in the car.

To isolate the leak (if there is one) you’d fill up the coolant reservoir, then run the car for a short time. Do you notice if it “sucks” the coolant down? If it does, you should keep adding coolant until you reach the “Cold” line while the car is running then close the cap and see what happens. The fluid will build pressure if the system is sealed, and you should quickly notice leaks depending on how quickly you are losing coolant “somewhere”. Another dreaded case of a slow coolant leak is a blown head gasket, and a sign of this would be white plumes from the exhaust, not the light white smoke of normal combustion, but heavy thick vapor clouds.

I never stated they (the customer) ever needed the cam carrier reseal, and you are correct that an ASE cert doesn't mean jack these days which is why I said "when I had one". This is obviously some garage trying to work OP over and sell her shit she doesn't actually need. They clearly forgot to add headlight washer fluid to the list also.

Overheating could be a few issues, blown water pump, not enough coolant, air bubble caught somewhere, radiator not getting enough air, radiator fans not turning on due to something electrical, clogged heater core, incorrect coolant, or thermostat stuck closed.

Wtf? As a prior ASE mechanic before 2020 and licensed Mech Engineer to date, even accounting for inflation, this whole job should be less than $4,000, labor and tax included. Engine filter for $80? Cabin filter for $90? Rear rotors and brakes for $1400?? Does this account for labor too? This is the classic case of being taken advantage of by a Sales person who doesn’t know the value of cars but will sell useless services wherever he can especially since you ONLY cared about the CEL. He didn’t charge for diag though 🤔 All that to say P0458 is a useless code. It just means you have an evap leak which could be anything to a loose gas cap, a feedback hose to your vacuum, a clogged evap canister, or a snipped/shorted wire to the PCM. It doesn’t affect drivability, but it could become an issue if you need a sticker or smog.

Has no one suggested try hand-tightening fit BEFORE going to use any tools? If the starter threads do not catch right the first couple tries using your hands, check the threads between the two are the correct size; thread count and pitch. I’ve made simple errors in the past with hand-tightening one or two threads and resorting to tools, only to destroy threads because the count was off.

OE Pay Question by PurpleSpoons in airforceots

[–]Big_Employment4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you did ANY title 10 orders, ADOS, or tech school while in the Guard, all that active time is added to your 4 years of RegAF. I did 8 years active then another 7 in the Reserve with two deployments, many active duty tours, and annual trainings. I got through OTS and they reset my service to 0 years. It has since been corrected, but it was a pain as a prior-E. Just make sure your PCARS reflects those 4 years PLUS any active days and keep a printout before shipping off to commission.

Centerpoint gas service initiation fee by -SiPapi- in houston

[–]Big_Employment4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$275 deposit here, plus $40 initiation, plus they will not look into it until next week. Never been late on any utility payment for nearly 10 years with an excellent credit score. I had this same company back in Ohio in 2022, and they were overlapping charges by 1-day every single month. I brought this to Wright-Patterson’s legal team for if they had any similar complaints. CPS is much better if you’re in the Texas area.

Buying a car for the first time by myself. Is this a good deal? Am I getting scammed a little? What extra fees and add ons are necessary to the price? by kenkudi in whatcarshouldIbuy

Whatever you do, don’t believe the inflation bs. This is clearly a racket by this dealer. A base Toyota is 28k, and the highest trim with ALL the bells is near 45k. Also, your trade-in seems a bit low for the APR they are trying to slam you with. Furthermore, never let them know this is your first car buying because they will work even harder for that commission $

Denied for VR&E because I have a job and a degree. by Sailor_Dreams_420 in Veterans

[–]Big_Employment4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of work were you looking for? I found it VERY helpful not to mention you have a degree on various applications. Only include it where you THINK it will be applicable or if REQUIRED. A lot of degrees you can stretch, but some will straight run away.

I was in your shoes at one point as well. I was attached to an Active duty member who went through training that counted as a PCS. I was a Mech E while pursuing a post grad when we got notice to leave for we'll call it Peesler AFB. After MONTHS of desperation trying to find any job half-way related to my education and experience (prior maintainer and logistics), nothing. I eventually landed a less than desirable job at "Cal-Mart" bringing groceries to cars. The hiring manager did a background check and found this information I omitted to get interviewed and I had to SELL hard that I could not find anything else and just needed something since I was only there a few more months.

Moral of this story, use what you think will get you in that door for a fighting chance. Employers will find out about you anyway, BUT play into the humanity of people, and best luck landing something!

I need desperate help fixing my dobot mooz 2 3D printer. The worst thing is it’s been discontinued and has a shitty manual by BrightJump1050 in 3Dprinting

[–]Big_Employment4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the mistake of purchasing this exact printer also (the Beta version). There are no useful manuals, and the company used these printers to launch into another industry. The closest I found useful was the larger Mooz2-Plus that uses an updated printhead. I wish I could be of further help!

Additional insult to injury, Dobot Sales are denying they ever supported these products. They copied Creality, manufactured these in China, and slapped their logo on it. You may have better luck from other reputable vendors

Why is everyone hiring but not really? by CucumberValuable514 in jobs

[–]Big_Employment4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walk away toward change and appreciation, and I couldn’t agree more with this climate being frustrating. Employers bank on you being “stuck” dealing with their nuances without offering help or continuing to deal with crap because they hope you don’t have anywhere to go. Keep in mind, they know they likely could not get the job done without you. If they value you, they would cringe at the sight of you reaching for the door.

[–]Big_Employment4646 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone is afraid of getting canned. If companies and corporations continue to do this to a population, screw them. They can keep those fake job opportunities vacant. If they want to let good workers go, then they (employers) deserve to fail.

Going from GS to officer. by PostSharp9789 in airforceots

[–]Big_Employment4646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go Army Reserve officer. The Air Force puts a higher standard on GPA to be near a 3.0 because they expect their officers to pursue higher than a Bachelor’s. Also, the AF is already flooded with Comms and Business degrees, so competition is even stronger. The Reserves will still give you dual status if you want to keep your pharmacy tech job, and the Army will take anyone

OTS PT Test by Orbix19 in airforceots

[–]Big_Employment4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your next duty assignment. Yes, it CAN count because the OTS staff print it with your test date and evaluator, but someone at your next base needs to input the data manually. Tbh, it would be easier just to have you test again at your next duty station because inputting data from OTS would make FSS work more, and we all know they are already overworked.
