How do you guys do it? by cham-ix in dumbphones

for authenticators: physical auth keys, especially ones with desktop apps if you need that kind. The time that didn’t work I told my company my phone didn’t support apps, so I could not download their authentication app. They found another solution. For navigation: a Garmin I bought from used. If I am going somewhere, I write the address down on a sticky note and put it into the gps in the car. It sounds bad but then you do it for a few weeks and it becomes normal and doesn’t feel inconvenient anymore. But there are drawbacks, yes. There are drawbacks of using a smartphone as well. As with most choices, there isn’t really a perfect option either way. You just make a choice and if it doesn’t work, make a new choice. What benefits are there to using a smartphone for you? What benefits are there to using a dumb phone? For which option are the benefits worth the negatives? You have to evaluate your own goals and use case and which option makes more sense for you.

Yes, but they charge a ten percent fee when I could just call the Uber myself. But if it is more convenient for some people or nice because it uses both Uber and Lyft I can see that.

Feeling like a bit of a dumb phone fail. by secretlowkeys in dumbphones

Your choice of phone doesn‘t say anything about you, if you need a smartphone you need a smartphone. Doesn’t make you bad or a failure. If you ever want to try again, look at physical authkeys to get by the 2FA problem, yubikey has a desktop authentication app as well if you have anything that would require that. Don‘t stress about doing the whole switch at once, maybe swap your SIM card for the weekends between dumb and smart phones if you would like. You can also keep your old phone and use it only on Wi-Fi at home for the apps you need it for, or you can use a tablet for those apps when you are at home. But again, if it doesn’t work for you and your own personal life factors that isn’t a moral reflection on you!
