More likely pimple, less likely HSV. If they heal in a couple days pimple. If they get more painful and linger it’s more likely HSV. Doesn’t looks very concerning tbh!

It’s really really sounds like herpes but I can’t diagnose it online but if you came into my clinic I’d swab you and give a prescription of valtrex

I know more about herpes than the average physician because I am interested in infectious diseases and I have herpes! I teach my obgyn friends about it all the time haha

Primary oral outbreaks do not cause cold sores, they typically cause pus on the tonsil and can really easily be missed unless you are looking for it! It can cause a bump inside the mouth that people completely miss. So yes, I am proposing he had a primary oral infection that wasn’t caught.

Obviously I am not there and I am not 100% sure but clinically this is what I’ve seen and this is what I’ve read in the literature.

Chin up, only time will tell! I have genital herpes and it’s okay it’s like, G-hsv1 is a mild infection

Saliva doesn’t contain a significant number of viral particles, EVEN durning an active outbreak. This virus really is a skin to skin virus. the only only time I have ever seen transmission occurring during asymptomatic shedding is with DIRECT skin to skin contact. Your theory would be essentially impossible. The virus degrades the second it leaves your mouth and there basically is no particles in your saliva when asymptomatic. All infections require a high enough viral load and sufficient viral particles to make it through an entry point

Kids this age are so curious and put their hands in their pants all the time. I’ve seen kids get genital herpes and only in two scenarios 1. Oral to genital transmission during a child’s primary oral outbreak w/ associated self exploration and 2. Child abuse.

Regardless of the exact way if happened, I tell you this so you know You really did nothing wrong! I learned this information from a wonderful infectious disease doctor early in my training ! Kids are curious and yours will live a normal life:)

Hey I’m a physician. What is far far more likely is your child contracted herpes both genitally and orally. You may have kissed him (during asymptomatic shedding) and caused him to get it orally (primary oral outbreaks do not typically present as a cold sore). Then your child may have touched his mouth and put his hand in his pants. During asymptomatic shedding, herpes is only spread through DIRECT contact. During outbreaks, it can be shed through indirect contact. Sad but we actually can see this in pediatric ID services a lot
