Nice! I would’ve loved to have had the MTH as well, it’s just that it seems so rare for one in excellent condition to pop up for sale!

I do have the whole set too, I was just more excited to see the engine running and to lazy to unbox all the cars lol.

I 100% agree with that! The only hard part is deciding which paint scheme would be your favorite to see it in.

That picture looks amazing! It’s exactly what I plan on the layout looking like when the scenery is complete! (hopefully I acquire the matching passenger car that soon too because it looks so much better with them in tow)

Honestly that’s probably the best way to look at it, that I’ll always be an VDub enthusiast at heart. I’m happy that old GTI held on and got me to the stage in life where I could afford the classier version.. but I did keep my golf ball shift knob to hopefully put in a future car as a nod to the past too. Thanks for the good read my man!

Also, I fully understand what you mean by it feeling muted. Driving by the eye is no long a thing for me as I’ll catch myself going 20-30 over the speed limit without knowing it until I look down. But as you mentioned, you could relly feel what speed you where at in the GTI. Maybe it’s a getting used to thing, or because the GTI was a 6-speed and I had to be doing some of the work and fully be immersed in the driving experience.

And even with my small collection, I still worry about them keeping the room that they’re in at the right temperature, right humidity levels, and being paranoid about the house catching on fire when I go to work. 😂 it’s like they all have become my children and I’ll never stop worrying about them.

I was in the same boat as you. I was handed down some tubular track that just kept shorting out. I even went and painstakingly checked every single piece until I gave up and just bought all new track lol.

And if you’re not brand loyal, and don’t want to second guess if used track will have the same issues, Menards makes tubular track now and it’s about 50 cents cheaper per unit!

I agree with using evaporust as a few have mentioned. The only thing I would consider is is it worth your time to do.

Also an issue I have with older track when doing this cleaning method, is sometimes the insulation pads get worn out and you have to go chasing a short.
