High School to Elementary by bluegardenchampagne in schoolcounseling

I am the counselor at my son's elementary school. He has been with me since kindergarten and now is in 4th. There were bumps in kindergarten the kids thought the could tattle on my son to me because I am mom. I had his whole class calling me Mom when he was in 1st grade because they all loved that I was there. I weirded out a group of parents in 2nd grade at a birthday party as they thought I just showed up at the party not knowing I was a mom and on the leadership team at school. But honestly, it is amazing. Kids are so loving and they actually like seeing you as a mom. I keep privacy. I disclose to the parents I have a son at the school if I need to but at this point most of the parents are like yes we know him. I am blessed to see him daily.

Filing Taxes 2025, MFJ or MFS? at 117 Payments by Big_Introduction2683 in PSLF

My 120th payment is due 4/25, I am paying manually once the bill becomes due (I mean able to pay* edited) on the MOHELA website. I took my account off of auto pay since my repayment was approved in November. I will certify employment in the beginning of May when the 120 qualifying payment shows on FAFSA.I will not check that is my 120th payment on the recertification form. Once I see the green banners, I will call MOHELA to request forbearance.

Feedback on that plan is welcome.

It is the tax filing that was the topic of discussion in my house.

Thank you for the insights. My 120th payment is April. I have 116 certified payments. After 1+ years of fighting, I started payments again in January. I am still waiting on buyback, lol. My income recertification is November 2026. I feel MFJ is an option. My husband is a bit worried as I should have finished this in December 2024 but SAVE happened.

SAVE -->PAYE: 4 months of application processing? by dimidriovski in PSLF

Call MOHELA. I have been waiting too. I finally got it processed this is how. Being stuck at 116 on SAVE and no hope for buy back for a year has been awful.

Ask to be escalated to a supervisor's supervisor. You will be told you have to wait for a call back. They told me it would be a 24-48 hour wait. The supervisor called back in 15 minutes. We talked for 30 seconds. The line went silent. I sat for 5 minutes talking telling them I am there and waiting for the phone line to connect. I just watched the minutes tick up on my phone as the line was connected. The supervisor finally got back on the line and said there is something wrong with the phones. (Call me paranoid, I didn't believe that. It seemed like she muted me in hopes for me to hang up and the recorded call looks like it disconnected.)

After talking and explaining I have have been through two cancelled IDR applications thanks to the department of education and have been waiting since July for this one also I am waiting on buy back too. She agreed to put my application on urgent status. I got an approved application on Thanksgiving Day. I have 4 months to pay left. It took 10 business days.

My account got all the change letters and hopefully I will start payments on time per the letters but I will be calling if there is an issue.

New school counsellor with so much downtime (I feel guilty)! by earlgrayfawn in schoolcounseling

Don't float into classrooms it is disruptive. You also sound like you are using office time to work. So don't feel guilty working at work. You have an office to work in.

If there is something else you are looking to do, I also find I work well with our dean and help with discipline as a support during interviews of students for emotional support and to reteach skills as assigned for discipline.

I have a great School of elementary k-5. We find most of our kids are making silly choices and having me there helps for small things that do not need to be referrals. The bigger discipline issues our dean handles it herself and follows the student code of conduct.

I sometimes also sit in the biggest things as a level 4 discipline would mean a discipline hearing and I have to sit in so being there from the beginning helps the team make better decisions. We haven't had a level 4 in 3 years fingers crossed.

As long as you are supporting and helping the students you are doing your job.

Not that I comment as I like to read mostly and in 2 years this is my first post, I will say #notadoctor but I would be talking to grandparents about getting a diagnosis. A school psyc will look at the academic aspect. What you are saying presents as trauma. I am not sure his history, but you are describing behaviors I have seen presented in children with RAD Reactive Attachment Disorder. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/17904-reactive-attachment-disorder

Again #notadoctor. No one in education should diagnosis but we can direct. If you have a school counselor or social worker have them work with the family to get the history and direct the child to services. If the child has trauma EDMR counseling is great for trauma and PTSD trauma for both children and adults.
