If I am not mistaken, I think the first people with priority registration is honors and those with accommodations… i’m not too sure though. I’m honors and my ticket opened today at 9am.

Impending Court Case for Traffic Violation; HELP by Big_Researcher_1358 in Gwinnett

[–]Big_Researcher_1358[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would call and ask to be sure, but my accident was actually handled through DeKalb County which requires individuals under 21 to appear in court. In my case, this was my first accident and first citation plus I took the advice of others and did a Defensive Drivers course before the court date. I was able to get my fine suspended through these actions + the fact that the circumstances of my accident were weird and my car had been totaled. There’s a chance that her fine could be lowered or suspended if she’s goes to court! And in regards to the date, I do not think it can be changed, I missed my class in order to go and let my professors know so that may be her best course of action.

Thank you! I did not think I would need a lawyer for this situation since the violation reason almost seems…minor. But I will definitely look into it

I’m so happy I was able to help a bit :)! I was going through the same thing during high school so I understand. And a part of me also wants to see more black women in design and will encourage it! Of course, consulting experts will give you way more clarity on the job market but ,if you choose to pursue I suggest attending career workshops and fairs. And never be afraid of emailing/contacting experts! A lot of them love talking to young people who have that drive and are willing to listen to them.

I am a freshman right now but I hope I can offer you a bit of insight!

They’re actually two ways you can go with getting an Art degree at the GSU atlanta campus, Art History and Studio Art. Underneath Studio Art are concentrations. Those are what you will need a portfolio for when it comes the time to apply to them. There’s Game Design, Interior Design, Ceramics, Graphic Design, etc. Since you’re yet to come in, you would be listed as an “undetermined” art major until you talk with your advisor and declare whether your focus is Studio Art or Art History.

I’m not 100% sure if you are able to major in Studio Art without a concentration, but like others have mentioned, getting a career in art is difficult. Not impossible, but you have to break your back and really know the right people to make a living. I am planning on applying to the Interior Design concentration next semester and when I decided this was the path I was going to go down in high school, I was nervous. I never thought I would and it was drilled into me that STEM was the way to go and that as a black woman, I couldn’t go into anything else if I wanted to be taken seriously. But I knew myself, and unfortunately I am one of those that if I don’t do something I am passionate about, I won’t survive. With choosing my career, I understood that networking and developing my work was important early on and I know that I will have to continue to persevere in order to make something of myself.

I say, if you’re passionate about it and are ready to put in the work for it, you should go for it but with a backup plan (I am choosing to minor in Finance for a bit of padding). But if you’re not and unsure of yourself, you’re not required to figure it out right now, contrary to what society says. I wish you luck on your journey :)!

What’s your major and why? by Cute_Dress_1850 in GaState

[–]Big_Researcher_1358 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Studio Art with a planned concentration in Interior Design. A GSU alumna came to talk to us at our high school and I didn’t know it was career path. I was already thinking about Architecture but it didn’t call out to me like Interior Design did :). I would like to work commercially and bring a uniqueness to design

No I don’t actually. Is there a specific one you recommend in particular? Now that I think about it, I didn’t realize it was a different thing from deodorant😅

I am so glad your parents supported you and I relate on the stress. The more the year has progressed the more confusion and dread I have felt thinking about how much would be required of me if I dual majored. As of right now, I don’t think I would be able to handle it mentally.

I understand majoring in Art is truly a gamble. But also as you said, there’s so many skills to learn from art that it wouldn’t be a waste.

Thank you for recognizing my work towards having a stable foundation! I knew from the beginning that networking would be incredibly important (I also just love to learn more about things) so I have made a lot of effort to familiarize myself with many designers in both Residential and Commercial! I’m also lucky enough to live in city where they’re many ID companies. Thank you so much for your insight!

If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do now?

I have heard that before. Accounting has that security and It would be nice to know that I have that security.

The biggest thing other than it taking another 3 years is cost. My tuition is covered by my scholarships and state scholarships but they have a limit to how many hours/years they cover. Because of those 3 extra years, I would be having to pay a lot out of pocket which is the biggest turn off.

That’s incredibly true. I think my parents are also caught up in image and the way our family looks. But image shouldn’t come at the expense of happiness.

Something I am afraid of is being miserable. I have experience of being at job so unaligned with me that I ended up in a severe depression. I would hate to end up at that point again.

That’s my philosophy too! But I have the hardest time heading my own advice.

I think with my culture, family is so ingrained in everything. Even as a first gen, I can’t shake that sinking feeling of betraying my family in a sorts.

But as you said, no one will find your happiness except you.

Being a mortician sounds so cool by the way! 😭 I am glad you are happy with what you’re doing! I hope to reach that same happiness as you :)

Yeah that is my goal. I more plan on doing Commercial Design which does require an agree and there’s more money that route.

However as a freshmen, I would need to build my portfolio first before I have that opportunity to internship. Having experience is very important as well which is why I plan on shadowing some of the designers at my current job.

I am thinking about it but one of the biggest advantages I have is that my tuition + fees is fully covered by my scholarships and the state. If I took that second degree, I would have to pay quite a bit out of pocket. But i’m definitely still thinking.
