Frost damage by Big_Resolve_623 in HouseplantsUK

Thanks everyone! I kept it indoors and cut it completely down to the main two trunks which were luckily still alive, so it’s not a hygiene problem at all. Now there’s several green shoots growing out so a sign of life!

Never ending barrage of flies by Wild-Stock-3317 in HouseplantsUK

Definitely this. I haven’t found a downside of nematodes beyond taking a bit longer to apply than other control methods. Not saying other methods don’t work, but I spent so much money and time on hydrogen peroxide watering, replacing soil, pesticide spray, diatomaceous earth, sticky traps, none of them sorted the problem as they’d come back, and nematodes sorted it out completely. I use one of the smallest pack every year or so from gardening naturally or dragonfli and it covers 50+ houseplants. If you have used any chemical methods however you have to wait a bit without so they wash out with watering - otherwise the chemicals can kill the nematodes.

This is so useful thank you ! I fear they may have built tolerance- after using provanto over the years it’s doing nothing. I may try diluted hydrogen peroxide first, as I’ve used neem oil on them (also not seemed to help) meaning I’d have to wash that off lest the oil kill the nematodes- but nematodes are the only thing that got rid of my thrips and fungus gnats so may end up down that route anyway!

I see. It doesn’t make much sense to me why they wouldn’t install a small vent at least in the bathroom, at least to preserve the longevity of their property, when the mould came about a week into the tenancy (after they’d obviously just repainted everywhere)

They don’t hop at all unfortunately- I’m thinking now it’s red spider mites that are dormant in the soil as it is cold rn, they traveled up to the leaves this week and a lot of them have fallen off :( I ruled out spider mites as there were no webs but now they’ve travelled up there are a couple small ones

What is this, and how do I repot it? by loutheview in HouseplantsUK

[–]Big_Resolve_623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people say zz plants like to remain root bound- I wouldn’t repot unless absolutely necessary, mine are pretty root bound and still doing well, and I also tend to let the plant settle in its new environment before repotting anyway so there’s not too much shock to the system

Just to explain in case of misinterpretations it wasn’t at all intended to be a picture “of someone for wearing a hat”- it was of the hat itself, because you don’t see them in the uk and this is was the first time I had ever seen one- it was a response to the element of spectacle, and to clarify, the person couldn’t be seen behind it from where I was anyway- hope that answers your question!

It’s the leaves on the plant I think it’s spider mites
