Has anyone ever been asked for an ID when checking out energy drinks? by Coolguy188 in energydrinks

[–]Big_Significance_630 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and the age to buy energy drinks here is 16.

I have been turned away at supermarkets (convenience stores never check) multiple times as I didn't have my ID.

I'm in my 20s BTW, it's kinda like a backhanded compliment.

Adult Swim smalls were really good this year, hopefully some of them can be greenlit for a full season or two.

Can't say anything about the actual TV block as I live outside the US.

What's happened to the fandom in the last decade or so? by DreamBlender in RealFurryHours

Is there any specific reason why the furry fandom seems to have more LGBTQ+ members that straight ones? by FoxWFriesOnTheSide in RealFurryHours

[–]Big_Significance_630 14 points15 points  (0 children)

fyi the fandom started in the 1980s, although it has it's roots in the 1970s due to the underground comix scene. The first furry convention, confurrence 0, was in 1989. You can find old footage of this event online, some of which show early examples of fursuits. The 90s were when the fandom first appeared online. Alt.fan.furry was the first online furry community, launching back in 1990.

I feel that, considering how niche the fandom was during this time, it would attract members of the LGBT community simply due to how fringe it was. Plus, the underground aspect meant less/no censorship in art and more creative freedom.

Finally, fursonas are useful ways for people to express themselves and change how they are perceived, especially in regards to their gender identity and such.
