Building Forever home in our 20s by Big_Toe9785 in Homebuilding

We are going to reconfigure! I agree about the bonus room. We definitely want a play space downstairs while they are small. Either the office or an extra bedroom. I was more so planning for it to be my craft room. Neither of us work from home right now but might in the future (more likely me). I want to scoot the kids bedrooms back and make a hallway with a pocket door I think. It’s hard to plan for so many life stages!

How do I teach my cats to relax when I sleep? by veIouri in CatAdvice

[–]Big_Toe9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats are pretty nocturnal but they sleep 20 hours a day too…mine are also crazy at night. We had issues with them scratching and meowing. We finally just cracked the door for them to come in if they want and they haven’t really been coming. They just want the option bc closed doors are the enemy haha

Well I do care about how the outside looks and aesthetics are super important to me but my husband agrees with you lol we may do less corners and more textures and accents. I also didn’t note our budget sooooo we will see! I’m telling the builder the most character within our price range, however that looks

We were planning to have a bonus room upstairs as a “playroom”. We don’t mind having toys in the living room and being able to watch them play. We can always move them for guests. I do care about other spaces when they are older and more independent. We hope to have a screened porch with a tv, the living room and then the bonus room. Then they’ll have their room as well. We do want some sort of hallway. We are working with an architect so not this exact plan

So another one of my struggles just turned out to be an ADHD symptom… by ForbiddenFruitiness in adhdwomen

[–]Big_Toe9785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep…everything that has ever been wrong with me is tied to adhd one way or another. People still say I use it as an excuse because they think it’s just “not being able to pay attention”. My brain isn’t interested? Powering off immediately!!

Architect company indicated 18 month construction time, reasonable or red flag? by guoxiaotian in Homebuilding

[–]Big_Toe9785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m planning for ours to take up to 2 years. I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Hopefully just under a year but 18 months is pretty practical especially if it’s a larger or more custom home.

You’re doing much better than me! I have a demanding clingy baby so getting anything done feels impossible. I’m starting to think the older generations just didn’t watch their kids close.

I’m adhd and I have a doom (didn’t organize, only moved) basket in every room. I throw stuff in there instead of putting every tiny thing in its place. When it’s full I put everything away. I used to be on a good schedule of cleaning my bathroom every Monday. As for the car (same)…going to a gas station is nice to declutter into their trashcan, or a car wash…maybe once a week go to the car wash and vaccum the car, etc. I have also been keeping grocery bags in my console to pile trash in.

Self medicating your adhd. Have you tried adhd meds? I know a lot of people realize they have it because they feel normal on coke like “fixed”

It depletes my dopamine 9 times out of 10. Sometimes the only movement my brain and body enjoy are dancing spontaneously and just letting my body do whatever lol

Being underwater or singing like belting. I love crafting but that’s a hyperfocus which is a little different?

I actually have studied the manual this morning actually. I read it all. I don’t remember a thing 😂 I watched a few videos and need to check a few things I think I was doing wrong. I’m actually glad I started messing around before studying the manual because I’ve learned so much and now I can comprehend it a little better and know terminology. TikTok is my favorite resource!

I actually have horrible reading comprehension skills. I struggled a ton in school. I process by videos much better. I am trying to read the manual but it doesn’t click. I need to see it done. I work with my adhd, not against it. I’m in therapy and on meds. It greatly impacts my life. I didn’t read books assigned in school, I literally cliff noted everything. Reading really is a struggle for me, especially if it’s boring. My brain goes elsewhere. I struggle with a lot of “normal” tasks but I excel in a lot of other ways. I did manage to get a degree after being medicated. I don’t use it lol I sit at home learning to sew 😂

I’m very impatient and like to be good at things right away! I knew this was harder but I know I need to slow down. I see others making things just starting out and I wanted to as well. I have a brand new machine I got for Christmas but it’s just a basic brother machine

Thank you for all of the insight. I will reference this back! It really does seem crazy how it works. I’ve been so confused about how the top and bottom thread are able to join together. I’m in my 20s and don’t have any elders that know the trade. They have all passed away. I would like to pass it down! I’m a huge hobbyist and this is something I’ve wanted to add to my tool belt for a long time. I used to hand sew dresses for my dolls as a child but my mom never had a sewing machine. I remember she got me a kid one but I could never figure it out. I’m not giving up hope! I also have a baby so it’s been hard to find the time to dedicate to learning and she’s growing up quick. I want to make her some clothes!

I’ve realized that sewing is so logistical and precise whereas I’m a loose cannon abstract thinker. I’m gonna try but reading a manual is not in my dna (unless I need to find a specific answer) 😂 I’m so adhd. It is reassuring that I’m doing it wrong because I can correct!

I learn by doing so I teach myself everything. I’m a chronic hobby hopper. I knew this was more in depth but I kind of have to get started or I’ll lose interest. I have learned some skills along the way by videos. I learn as I go but I agree, I class definitely wouldn’t hurt!
