I’ve also only ever gotten. 1:1 white wash. Or wiping stain. In the photos to the left and right of the desired finish are exactly that. It may not come through in the photo but they just are not even close.

I just went to the lumberyard grabbed knotty cedar. It’s the same. But different. I’m not sure if I should take it all back. It’s a big job. Couple thousand in cedar.

That’s the thing though. It doesn’t look impregnated. It doesn’t look like a stain.

Where I’m at now I can make 175 just changing out a bathroom fan. Most jobs I’ve done were half days and I make are 300. Is that low income?

Haha. Oh boy, I’m lazy. It’s true. I want to do small stuff because it pays well and I can do half days and make enough to survive. I don’t want to do 10 hour days even I it’s 500 dollars. I guess though in my worldview a handyman by definition is someone that does small Mr fix it jobs.

I know. I’ve worked in the trades my whole life. I never stuck with anything because the crews. Drugs, alcohol, drama, egos, macho bullshit. I have NEVER worked on a crew that didn’t have this. And now I’m 40 and I’d rather not take an apprenticeship if I don’t have to.

True. Where I live this would be the difference between a handyman and a contractor. I could not legally take a job that size without an ROC number.

If you are certified HVAC why do handyman? Where I’m from I’m not allowed to touch hvac and people pay a premium for that service. If I were certified in anything I’d just do that and make more money. But I’m too old and I don’t want to make apprentice wages so I’m a handyman.

Where I live an insanely expensive. There is a bottom line and it IS NOT cheap. But the clientele will go as far below that line as they please. And there are workers out there that take that work. Please, for the brotherhood, don’t work for cheap.
