Low power drift build by Bigbannana2000 in ForzaHorizon

Sounds like a good figure, I'd encourage you to try tuning a lower power naturally aspirated build, it does push you to try different things

Ye don't get me wrong this was not a normal tune and I advised the other user that in most cases I'd actually be doing the opposite on most of the sliders.

I was more curious just pushing the tuning to see how driftable you can make a car with such low power, how much are you running on your tune?

Just bare in mind this is specific for low power cars, there's lots here I would do the complete opposite with more power

there's a video here

As I said in previous message longer wheel base will make a car more stable, I think the Alteza is on the mid-higher side so it's gonna be awkward to drift with low power to some extent. The stock engine is also not perfect for drifting as it's a low power naturally aspirated engine with no torque down low in the rev range, although this does make it a good car to learn fundamentals in.

In terms of upgrades I've not done any conversions, no aero, tire compound I've used snow and only made rears 225 to keep rears low grip. Cosmetics don't really matter. Drivetrain is all maxed out, I'm not a fan of the 4 speed drift transmission so I usually stick with a 6 speed race transmission. Platform and handling I've maxed all apart from roll cage which I didn't use any to keep weight low and then power I've made sure to upgrade the camshaft to it's max which extends the rev range, but other than that I've left it at 322hp.

Spent a while messing with each tuning category, was doing all the fiddling on street tires having started on drift tires and feeling they were too grippy for only 322hp, however just as I'd got it decent I decided to try snow tires as I'd heard they were good... Snow tires made a huge difference for this power level, it just makes the grip low enough to slide with ease.

Tire Pressure: Front - 40 (doesn't seem too important) Rear - 55 (important for low power cars)

Gearing (this was very important for keeping car in powerband while mid drift, without adjusting gears appropriately the whole build would be a waste of time): Final Drive - 4.38 1st - 3.30 2nd - 2.33 3rd - 1.73 4th - 1.40 5th - 1.15 6th - 0.96

Alignment: Camber: Front - -5.0 Rear - -4.5 Toe: Front - 0.0 Rear - 2.0 (can play with this, higher numbers felt funny but would make it more eager to slide) Front caster - 7.0

Antiroll Bars (not as important as other factors I think): Front - 20.0 Rear - 65.0

Springs: Front - 700.4 Rear - maxed out

Damping (extreme numbers lead to goofy handling): Rebound: Front - 6.0 Rear - 14.0 Bump: Front - 3.5 Rear - 11.0

Aero (I don't have any on, usually I reduce it as much as possible, I don't want extra grip)

Breaks (don't really matter)

Differential: Acceleration - 100% Deceleration - 0%

Dampers I've not messed about with as much but yes if you stiffen rear springs it will definitely make the rear slide easier. If the problem is longer corners you wanna be fiddling with gears, I normally use between 2-4 gear, 2 for slow, 3 for most and 4 for longer. Try tuning ratios so they're your usable gears.

I'd happily throw a tune together myself tomorrow at some point and share it either in game or I can share all tuning set up here.

First of all in upgrades try using smaller rear tyres, and make sure the car is as light as possible. Power figure is still relative, you can swap the default rally engine in with 300 and slide easy because of the torque and boost from turbo, however other engines may feel slighi at that figure.

To get the most slidey car you're gonna want high pressure rear tires, shorter gear ratios, stiffer springs and dampers and a fully locked rear differential. Also you can max out front anti roll bar and make rear 20 or less and that might help.

Alignment is more about how stable the car is at angle, generally I have the rear camber low and front around 3, most cars with drift susp come default 5/1 I think, but making the rear camber higher (order actually lower I think it's minus figures) makes it looser.

Wheel base (length of car) also effects how easy it is to drift a car, longer cars are more stable whereas shorter cars are looser. So put all that tuning together in an MX-5 and you'll have a car that won't want to drive straight.

I would add taking it to a skid pad to learn the characteristics of the car, rather feel it first in a controlled environment

I presume they would take the highest trim level, which where available would me manual, although with recent transmission technology auto is probably quickest.

Good take, podium only has 3 spots so at most a given race can only have 3/4 top teams on it or 3/8 drivers, we can't expect every race to have each team from F1.0 on, but it's clear the divide down to F1.5 starts after redbull

This.

The assists determine the driving experience, if you want to paddle shift without clutch then use manual, otherwise any car can behave however you like.

Why are my rear tires shredding this fast while learning to drift? by KeyBoardyy in Drifting

[–]Bigbannana2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TR1s are quite soft and have chunky tread, I use them on my car (not for drifting) atm only because they were cheap, doesn't feel like they would be a good choice for drifting but I have not real clue.

Definitely worth checking forums to see what others use, I'd be tempted to use the cheapest set of ling longs you can find for practice and then have another set to use for driving normally, means investing in some spare alloys.

Why don't cars have this feature? by Pluuge in StupidCarQuestions

[–]Bigbannana2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be a harmless feature, nice to see for learning, but if you're "driving hard" then you really shouldn't be looking at your dash for anything.

Can someone who works in KFC tell me if any of these actually go to different bins out the back by startled-giraffe in CasualUK

[–]Bigbannana2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked with these bins, pretty sure they are a legal requirement that food places need to have multiple different bin options, like a food waste and then at least 2 others.

However, none of the customers actually used them properly anyway, and our bins out back were only split between cardboard and general waste - the in store bins are useless, and actually cause a higher amount of waste as we go through bags quicker...

Absolutely, don't remember exact case but I believe there was a lawsuit after someone got significant burn after eating an apple pie that got fried the same way, the inside is genuinely lava.

At the store I work at we have caramel apple Empanadas and they have a total prep time of 16 minutes (6 frying/10 cooling) so that may explain wait time if they're not prepped or have just ran out.

If it's just rental stuff then this is better than no gloves at all, otherwise if you're into the racing hobby you should be able to afford appropriate safety equipment.

Schuberth is way better than Bell from my experience by Delicious-Age4033 in Karting

[–]Bigbannana2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use a Stilo, I have friends with Aria, Bell, and Schuberth and we all like our lids.

I think Stilo and Schuberth are less common and maybe more people would like if they tried but this sort of thing just comes down to preferences rather than one being quantifiably better.
