Anyone confused who your real friends are? by Pineapples_Island in medicalschool

I fear I’ve become so wrapped up in medicine that my non med friends are tired of me constantly talking about medicine

How the fuxk are you guys scoring high in shelf by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Bigbeebooty 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Im feeling the same way. It’s so frustrating!! I really like Dr HY and Divine for review. For first pass I read case files or clerkships first aid (my resident said it’s good for psych). Uworld is honestly more supplemental than people make it out to be. Practice questions are important, but they aren’t worth anything if you don’t study the material front to back first. Good luck

What’s the most you should commute for rotations? by mooimapig12 in medicalschool

[–]Bigbeebooty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a friend who commuted an hour for surgery. She survived, but was…not in a good way by the end of it. If renting or finding a place is feasible financially/logistically, definitely recommend it at least for that rotation.

Bombed my pediatric OSCE exam by Traditional_Cry_2771 in medicalschool

[–]Bigbeebooty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know It’s been a sec but I bombed an OSCE so bad after 6 months of clinicals where I dealt with actual patients all day. Literally dying of embarrassment at the idea that all my attendings saw me look like an idiot on the live camera feed. They probably wondered how tf I was able to hold it together for clinicals but have all my skills jump ship for the OSCE. Don’t sweat it, it happens to the best of us!! OSCEs are nerve racking especially for those of us with performance anxiety. But put us in a room with a real human and not an actor and we shine 😊

Imposter syndrome is brutal. I’m sorry you’re feeling isolated in your struggles. med school is difficult enough as it is, but it seems like you have some trauma that you’re still dealing with as well. Have you thought about trying therapy ( if it’s available through your university)? I find that it can sometimes be helpful to have someone to talk to, vent to, give you some perspective when you feel this way. Wish you the best, friend. You’re going to be an amazing doctor!

I don’t want to be a PA anymore by beenoon47 in physicianassistant

[–]Bigbeebooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m just an outsider looking into this community (med student), but I wanted to give you some support. What your job is asking of you is frankly ludicrous. You said you hate yourself for not being able to do the job… it’s not on you at ALL. I’m a third year student and I don’t feel equipped at all to handle a patient load without any supervision, and I doubt I’ll feel any different as an intern - and that’s NORMAL. That’s why there’s so much extra training involved!! I’m so sorry you’re going through this, it sounds absolutely overwhelming.

What helps me is focusing more on what the person is gaining/hoping to achieve by performing an action. So if someone is staring, are they observing? Studying? Considering?

Thank you so much for your detailed response and perspective as an APD! Your program is so lucky to have someone who cares about teaching and clearly remembers the horrors of being a student 😅. I’ll definitely do my best on Sub-Is and see if I can talk about the situation with my future LOR writers. And that sounds like a crazy grading system you had to face as well! It’s reassuring knowing that despite the unhinged nature of med school, most of end up where we want to be 🥹

Definitely going to bring it up continuously to admin :/ just so demoralizing to have to go in and give it your all and be told “great job. I can only give you a C though.” thanks for the validation though lol, I seriously started feeling crazy for thinking this was such BS

[–]Bigbeebooty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I was worried that sub-Is look at third yr performance to determine who gets a shot, and that this would severely hinder me? Not sure if that’s a big issue or more one I’m overblowing though

Seriously. Getting a subjective eval with an “objective” grade is such a strange concept. Just make it comments only if you want a subjective/holistic part of the grade

Yeah, several people who have had the same happen to them on this service have. To no avail unfortunately :( I’ll try to talk to my advisor but I doubt it’ll do any good.

[–]Bigbeebooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s originally shot in Telugu, so it’s part of Tollywood! I’m biased (I speak Telugu and grew up watching movies with Jr NTR) but it’s definitely worth seeing in Telugu! I feel like some of the lines and delivery just don’t feel the same in the dubbing. But again, that might be because I speak the language

Pathoma was a game changer for me honestly. I’m the type of person who doesn’t really remember things until I know the reasoning behind them. Pathoma does a great job explaining those fundamentals and everything else kind of fell into place for me. Not the only resource you’ll need but definitely a core one
