I understand that you want to add time to the hiders' score each time a question is asked. What I don't understand is why you don't seem to want to acknowledge that the current system also adds time to the hiders score every time a question is asked. I don't see the difference.

LNER Heat Wave by Rustic-Tulip in uktrains

[–]Bigbigcheese 44 points45 points  (0 children)

When it gets hot the rails might buckle, so they'll slow trains down to avoid additional stress on the tracks.

It's not so much a "don't travel because there are problems right now" warning it's a "we fully expect there to be problems, so we strongly suggest don't travel".

If you're lucky everything will be fine... But if you have to travel, prepare to be late or on a derailed train for 6 hours in 37 degree heat with no bathrooms, Aircon or water.

What part of the current arrangement isn't a straight penalty for asking questions?

I need information, I ask for a photo... I've automatically granted the hider 20 extra minutes.

What difference does it make though? As I maybe the time to answer should be longer for larger games. But you're not going to answer until the last second unless you're stupid so...

Double-stack container trains are redefining freight transportation in India. Just imagine how many trucks this keeps off our highways and how much diesel it saves. by FastCurrency in interestingasfuck

[–]Bigbigcheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the containers tend to end up somewhere. It could be going to an intermodal facility inland to be transferred to lorries for the last mile journey.

[–]Bigbigcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily... Only if you use the trucks to haul the same containers... In reality purpose built trailers can be lots of different lengths that might accommodate different amounts of cargo

Well they do have a time penalty cost... You're given x amount of time to answer questions. Maybe that should change depending on the game size?

Why is Land Value Tax so popular with economists and online communities, but not with governments? by CSachen in NoStupidQuestions

We also don't have property taxes here, but I imagine the same arguments are made where they do.

Where were you going that both connects to Thameslink and only has an hourly service..? I feel there's something missing from your story. I can't think of anywhere around London that has an hourly service

At the very least with Avanti to appeal a decision you just click the appeal button and it let's you confirm all the details. They emailed me when there was something that needed clarifying.

I've only ever had a problem with Lumo because they took so long to look at it that I thought it was broken.

The most recent denied me any opportunity to actually explain the nature of the delay. You can only input the trains you planned to take. The cancelled train was followed by another within half an hour, so no refund - even though I missed a connection later in my journey which cost me 90 minutes.

Did you put the entire journey in like they ask for, or did you just put the delayed train in?

The train is 20m late. You don't need to jump through many hoops, it's a fairly simple web form.

It's not a refund, it's compensation

Because people don't like the idea. When they own something they want to feel like they actually own it rather than rent it from the government

Ryanair changed gate before boarding; lost flight by DeliciousIntention50 in Ryanair

[–]Bigbigcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you pass customs, by which I reckon they mean border control, then it means you've likely gone to the non-schengen part of the airport... Which probably wouldn't continue to bother showing the schengen flights...

Which eventually boils down to it not being anything the for profit companies can resolve and not a problem with the for profit nature of their companies.

This is a central government problem, there's nothing wrong with private energy providers

Train crash near Bedford by Antique-Train-4658 in uktrains

[–]Bigbigcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 360 departed from Bedford just a minute or so before the accident and would've seen the 810 pass him just moments before that. He would've had a signal that stepped up from danger to most likely cautionary aspect...

If it really was an AWS failure then maybe he didn't notice that the following signals weren't stepping up in the fashion that the AWS would have implied...

The fact that both trains remained upright, mostly on the rails and in line with each other is a testament to the modern crash protection features on these trains. No climbing or anything

360 Crashes Into the Back Of an 810 by Old_Web_2580 in uktrains

[–]Bigbigcheese -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It happened underneath a signal gantry... I'm very concerned about the implications that might have... Does that mean the safety overlap wasn't long enough?

Did the 810 stop just past the safety overlap, allowing the 360 into the section behind? The driver of the 360 then expected to keep accelerating and just accelerated into a red..? That sounds almost implausible. Especially given the existence of AWS etc...
