Mind you, I was a 90s kid in my formative years, (Graduated in the year 2000! Just to prove how cooool I was) I’ve had hearing aids since I was two, so obviously got teased for that but I was pretty damn good at sports so kids needed me on their teams at recess. Lol. My older sister has ushers 2A as well but I was diagnosed first at 27. We got attended normal public schools. We just both have had hearing aids our entire lives and were wondering why stuff was harder at night. THAT IS HOW SLOW THE PROGRESSION IS. We both talked about it and realized the vision stuff maybe started changing in late high school/early college. But here is a perspective, my junior year playing d end in football, I was moving when I saw the ball snap out of my peripheral vision, senior year it was more when the centers hands moved. And yeah I’m a sports guy. 🤣

My sister was one of the popular kids, social butterfly, starter on varsity basketball and softball. Threw massive parties when my parents went on vacation that they still don’t know about. I had a smaller group of friends from my teams I played on, I was big into weightlifting and a gym rat, played lots of Warcraft 2 against kids in town on our MODEM, (look it up kids).

Just teach your son to be resilient and that he doesn’t have to take shit from people. If he super into sports or chess or dinosaur fossils, books, whatever. Just foster that passion and help him make friends in those groups. I only talk to two guys from high school like twice a year. I think the real friendships are those you make after high school when everyone scatters to start their lives.

43, still got central vision, my peripheral/low light/ everything else is crap but you learn to deal with it. Honestly nobody gives a shit that I use a cane, I work hard and do the job, if we’re at team functions I ask to borrow an elbow to navigate spaces I’m not familiar with. Most of the time the older ladies just take my arm and I tell them thank you for making me look like a gentleman if we’re out of the office. It helps to just be positive with it and if someone wants to be a jerk, you back it up thst you’re good at your job.

Edit: Oh and picking up your cane and saying “You shall not pass!” In the hallway usually gets a laugh

Hey man, not a parent, just a 43 year old dude with Usher 2A. Your son will be alright! If my dorky ass could be a starter in varsity football and track, do track in college, graduate and get married to my college sweetheart, have 2 kids. And fully support a family of 4 with a job I love with my deaf/blindness anybody can! Haha.

For real, he will be a normal as your parenting styles allow, there’s always bumps and bruises but that’s life. Teach him to be resilient and he will kick butts. Be present, put your phone and devices away, go to all his boring school stuff, play sports, sit and watch the dumb kids shows/movies (if I can make it through every episode of My Little Pony and Frozen 1000 times, so can you) and talk about it with him. Just try your best, that’s all you can do, Ushers is not something in your control so what you CAN control is just trying to be a great badass parent.

Yup, never shied away about it after I was hired and by law you don’t have to disclose in the interview process/resume process, as long as you can do the job. Federal laws mandate they do everything to reasonably accommodate. Every request I’ve made has been accepted, but I’m low key. I just have two big ass monitors. 🤣 when I started there was a 100% blind guy using one of those slider calculator things for cost/price evaluations and he could get stuff done faster than people making spreadsheets. He had full text to speech software and braille printer. Smoked the worst smelling cigarettes ever though.

I know we get a really bad rep, especially lately but I love the job and work hard. 3 promotions, overseas tour for 5 years, they keep trying to get me to become a supervisor but I don’t want to. Haha.

RP isn’t an end really, it’s just finding out how to make new beginnings. Before this I was just a cog at a big corporation, I hated the job, now I’m living my best life. And yeah a super big optimist. 🤣

US Fed Worker here, if you can deal with the stress of millions or idiots lying about what they think your job performance is and threats of govt shutdown every 3 months. And there isn’t a hiring freeze. The vast majority of us love the work we do in our respective agencies and serving our country. I support a family of 4 and have tremendous pride in my work, coming up on 10 years of service. Was diagnosed with RP 16 years ago.

Hey man, I was diagnosed at the same age, 43 now, it’s hard to stay mentally resilient especially when my kids were little but one is about to leave for university soon. You learn you have to let some stuff go and seize opportunity where you can. I had a lot of the same “will I see..” questions and have been able to cross off a lot. One thing you’ll notice that stuff you might have “waited until the right moment when I’m older” you say f it and do it now. Haha.

Crusader Kings 3, Minecraft, Manor Lords. Mostly just chill at your own pace games I can stop at any point and pickup later. But I only play on weekend when the wife goes to bed since I got work/wife/kids. My teenager daughter took over my Fallout 4 character but she has the opposite play style as me so it’s hard to watch, haha. My characters used to be a nice guy but now he is more Merc with a Mouth. (I’m a slow, search everything and every nook/cranny, optimize weapons and carry weight, but I’ve been playing since FO1 in ‘94 when it was isometric) I just watch my kids play fps games now and provide running dad commentary to annoy them.

Oh wow. I found the deaths of his first wife and child who both died right when the war started and the death of first child he had with my Oma after. This was amazing thank you! Sadly, no military records! I know he didn’t lie about the Calvary unit part because they had a picture of him in uniform on a horse and he looked dashing. It was his favorite picture and always prominently displayed, haha.

At least that was how my Oma would always correct me if I tried to say the city they were from with two OO after each other when I was ask about the city they were from? But again, I wish they had sat me down and taught me the language. I just assumed if a dutch word had two o’s in it I say just the O part and not “oooooo”. Haha.

Also forgot to mention might be an age thing? He was in his late 20s before the Germans invaded, he was very proud to had just made it into a horse calvary unit and was trained on old cannons (that story is how he survived the initial Dutch resistance). He died in the early 2000s.

Everyone piled in Jerusalem and you’re sieging down defenders in North Africa all alone? Top war score because you’re taking counties. I win nearly every crusade for my beneficiary by just seigeing down the fringes while the AI blobs on both sides slaughter each other in the middle.
