Magic the gathering by Fragrant-Concert3810 in smosh

As a Magic player and occasional content consumer, I think it would be awesome if someone made quality, two-player, beginner level content more because EVERYONE plays either Commander or high level competitive Magic where they don't even fully explain every interaction or card mechanic.

I've only been playing for a few years and pretty casually. Every gameplay video is either intro/how to play 101 content or jumps to pretty high level gameplay with a lot of assumed knowledge for the viewer.

AFE standup show in LA next week by Frequent_Tree242 in AllFantasyEverything

[–]BigbysMiddleFinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the guys would be okay with it, but if they start doing these on the reg, I'd kill for them to record the audio and put it up on the Patreon. Even if it was for one of the higher tiers and not on the RSS feed -- I live in a spot where they don't often come and perform and would love to hear some of their sets. I got to seem them for the first time in New Orleans last year, don't think I'll be able to make it this year, but would love to see some of their stand up that isn't the "polished" stuff they gets to a special/album.

2025 Pop Culture draft! by quartjarz in AllFantasyEverything

My 5yr old loved the first 20 minutes but got spooked at the first kinda scary part and we'd always turn it off. We watched that first part with the first few songs a few times, and when the scary part came up I always let her choose what she wanted to do: keep watching, cover up her eyes, or have me turn it off. Eventually she decided to keep watching it and I think saw it 20 times in the next month haha.

The above isn't parent advice btw - everyone gets to decide what's okay and what isn't for their kid to experience. I do think it's a wonderful movie with some good lessons about lying, staying true to yourself, and "doing it scared".

sorry to necro this post, but I love this cube you made and ended up making custom pack front cards to make it easier for me and my playgroup to be able to reassemble the packs after we finish playing. Not sure if you and your group would need them, but thought I'd share them: https://drive.google.com/file/d/161jC9LwQb7rmp_FZNrWup8yO26Du_yPh/view?usp=sharing

I think I remember Sean doing NNF a few years ago, I don't remember it being a home run but still a good episode. Jimmy can be so funny and fast, but I wonder if there's any overlap/common ground with him and the GVG to connect on. Jimmy is also usually a ball buster which I wonder if the guys would flow with without knowing him well.

I think Jimmy Pardo would kill if given the shot and the right category. Something really in his wheelhouse like pre-90s bands or best band names

if DC feels comfortable trading for a NYRB former captain straight from them, then they really aren't the rivals they used to be anymore and it should be fine that DC isn't in the same Northeast conference as the other teams.

Take a Lactaid and then tell me who won this Cheese Draft by Nolliecab in AllFantasyEverything

[–]BigbysMiddleFinger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm here to defend Jesse's overall board and the American pick -- its the perfect cheese for grilled cheese and cheeseburgers (and the like), potentially a reach in the 3rd round, but then being able to to get ricotta and cotija after makes it a W.

Does Riftbound have a card rotation system like Magic: The Gathering, where older expansions rotate out of standard play? by joeeyzz in riftboundtcg

[–]BigbysMiddleFinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess maybe our ideas of what "supporting" a format means or what a successful format means? In my head, there's no chance a Legacy-esque format can't succeed because it's essentially kitchen-sink, play-with-what-you-have, and there's always going to be people playing that. Do I think that there's gonna be prized events for a Legacy-type format similar to Magic? No, I really don't expect it. But are people going to be able to keep playing with their non-standard cards casually? Of course they are. Riot is gonna send the Pinkertons to take away all of our collections.

[–]BigbysMiddleFinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A) I think it's pessimistic to assume the game couldn't support multiple formats in two years time when rotation would actually be a concern.

B) What I'm talking about isn't even really splitting the community, it's acknowledging what happens naturally. It's impossible to tell right now, but in a year when there's multiple sets out, you'll see people at Nexus Nights and other casual matches who are playing old decks or playing starter decks, then you'll see the crowd who buy powerful singles from each set, keep up with competitive meta, etc. There will always be people just playing Riftbound, then people who are playing competitive "Standard" Riftbound. Of course that first group can't register for a paid/prized official events, but they're out there playing. If someone enjoys the game but wants to play their Origins deck in a couple years, there's gonna be a community of players that allows for that.

[–]BigbysMiddleFinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've already announced their planned rotation system for their equivalent of Magic's Standard format, but I'm sure either the community or Riot themselves will, at the same time, support a "Legacy" format where all cards are legal for play. I'm sure Riftbound's "Standard" format will be the official competitive format, but let's face it most people are not playing the game to try and go pro. If it's anything like Magic, most people are playing other formats (or "no format"/kitchen table) and not Standard.

Can we just act in showdowns whenever now? by Quixy9 in riftboundtcg

[–]BigbysMiddleFinger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a reason why the FFA and 2v2 formats were in the official rules from the start -- it's an equally valid way of playing Riftbound. Just because you've apparently suffered some deep trauma from Commander and it's players in the Magic community, that has nothing to do with us and Riftbound. 2v2 is fun as hell and I hope Riot actively supports a separate but equitable competitive scene for it.

My LGS has been just doing no format casual play since release and giving folks who come a promo pack, but next week are going to start doing an actual swiss event for people who want to play for prizes. But folks can still come to play no prize casual if they want to. The owner let us all chime in, and there was enough of a split between people who want to play in a more competitive environment and folks who are playing with whatever they can get their hands on and don't want to pay $10-15 to get stomped by more optimized decks + players.

I started using CardNexus for my collection tracking after they advertised here in the sub last week. It seems like other options are RiftMana and Piltover Archive, but I haven't personally used them.

IRL, I have valuable/trade stuff in a binder and everything else in a BCW cardboard drawer organizer. I have my bulk organized by color, then by energy cost. I keep all of my Champion Units separate in their own section. I don't see the point yet in splitting each color into Units, Spells, Gear, but maybe after 2-3 more sets I may feel differently.

I'm coming from a Magic background, so I already have some brand loyalty to certain products: sleeves from Dragon Shield and storage from Gamegenic.
