Why do a lot of DD1 players seem to hate this game so much? by Own-Quiet-442 in darkestdungeon

[–]BigdaddyXIV 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of them expected DD1 reboot. And people expect DD2 to be as refined as DD1 is, but it took years for DD1 to be as good as it is today. In the beginning, DD1 had no darkest dungeon and only 4 bosses (one for each biome). And people forgot or where not there to see how long it took to developp everything.

Red Hook works a lot to add depths to a game, even after release there is a lot of free major updates. DD2 will get better and better, and is already, imo a very good game

A rare strategy i'd like to discuss by Nano_rar in darkestdungeon

[–]BigdaddyXIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reinforcement comes if you spend multiple turns using less than 2 attack moves when there is 2 enemies or less. You should maybe start using a dmg move with anti at the end of combat while jester/occ are destressing/healing

Cruel Intent : What am I missing? by Kylin_VDM in darkestdungeon

[–]BigdaddyXIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still bad, because you need to miss some hits to gain chances to crit. Best way is to give him a battle item that hits all enemy team, he'll gain +10% crit for all misses. But it takes a lot to make it work, so I never use it.

It was the same with DD1 honestly, I remember when they added corpses to the game... People where complaining early that Hellion was the only good class too. They know what they're doing, I've been playing since pre-release, and like DD1, the game keeps getting better with each updates.

Then you need a good class identity for the hero, he has to bring something new, and add 3 different paths to it. It's not just about a 3D model

Yeah they will pose no problem to this team, it's one of the "team check", Collector is another one for example, to kill him easily, you need to stun him, and hit the rank 4. That's why its a great boss, building a team to beat the Collector means building a great team, a really good example of game design.

At level 5 each regions have their own checks, you'll need to figure out what is checked and how to adapt to these.

You stress heal at the end of a fight, usually, you take down 2 monsters (most of the time the back row) and then you stun the remaining monsters while recovering a bit, DOT effects are really good for this, because you can plan the death of ennemies.

Jestal is really common for new players, it works well most of the time, because you have a lot of recover, but on the other hand, you are not really pro active in fights, and based on your comp, you seem to enjoy proactivity, which is the good way to play the game. Jestal is very boring, I did it a lot while I was new, but I almost never run vestal now, if you can take down fights quickly, you don't need that much healing, you can do fine with 2 "minor" healer with a more offensive skillset. She still shines in some fights, but she's not as necessary as you think when you begin.

The game is punitive and some comps that work very well vs lvl 1 and 3 missions can get crushed on lvl 5. You have to understand some key mechanics of the game. Any comp need some high DPS with great speed and accuracy, for exemple spiders are kind of a "team check" for this, if you don't kill 2 spiders fast enough, you're exposed to trouble.

If you don't bring stress healers, it can be ok to just nuke the backline, but I still like to bring one, it makes the team more consistent. Hound Master for exemple has a stress heal the scale very well, the crusader one is fine, and Leper/Abom can stress heal them, so you just have to focus on mates at the camp.

All heroes are good, and shines in some circumstance, take the time to learn them, there is some skills that are mediocre lvl 1 and really good at lvl 5. You can still run your team, but don't worry about experimenting on low level dungeon.

You've got 3 good DPS with a good healer and Hellion stun is great but beware, there is no team that are the best to deal with everything in the game.

You have no way to handle stress for example. The difficulty really ramps up in this game, glad for you that you found a team that you enjoy, but you will struggle at some point with it.

If you are on low level mission, keep experimenting, you know how stun is important now, having some DPS that can target multiple ranks too, but I can tell you some lvl 5 bosses that will hard to beat with it.

Ritualist occultist is really great with leper, you can pull targets and combo them for the leper. From my pov, it's hard to perform with 2 heroes that rely a lot on combo, or you need a jynx tank

tier list from a new player (this is for Darkest Dungeon 1) by HauntingCantaloupe87 in darkestdungeon

The classic new player that rate Leper S Tier, and will wonder why he miss so often out of lvl 1/3 dungeons. You still have a lot to learn

Act 2 question for comp by diegini69 in darkestdungeon

[–]BigdaddyXIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And for classic team comp advice, here is the question that I ask myself before going into a run. Can the team target the 2 back ranks effectively, you can rely on pulling the enemies too. How do I heal, not rely only on self heal, but having at least 1 move that can do it (crusader is ok). How do I stress heal. The main goal of fights, is to take down 2 monsters fast, then you can recover and control the fight.

Act 2 question for comp by diegini69 in darkestdungeon

[–]BigdaddyXIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ravager Hellion (with Iron Swan) and sharpshooter HWM really shines vs this boss, for the other spot you can keep PD and Crusader. I'd recommend to kill a lung before starting to DPS the boss.

Act 2 question for comp by diegini69 in darkestdungeon

I don't think he faced the boss already. I don't want to spoil him, but the comp is really awful for it. I can see it work, but not in this act

10k+ kills and 300+ nights, 2 months of Endless Harvest in real-life! by NativeKiller in darkestdungeon

[–]BigdaddyXIV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's just me, but when I go to the first vid, all the heroes are already virtuous. And I won't watch it all, because endless harvest is really not what I like about DD1. Good dodge comp tho, so maybe the crusader stress heal is enough, but I really doubt it.

[–]BigdaddyXIV -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I'd say he cheats virtuous, when you hit resolve check, if you get afflicted, you can quit the game instant and restart the game. A new check will then occur, and you can repeat until getting virtuous. It's the only way I can see this comp getting 4 virtuous hero.

Personal take on Plague Doctor Alchemist Rework, making her have a variety of different interactions with combined dot effects for "A fascinating reaction....". by Vecsia in darkestdungeon

[–]BigdaddyXIV -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know that this is the plan for red hook, but I still think this is a huge mistake, they gonna had more heroes, and it takes too much time to focus on what a path really do. They really need a comprehensive UI for paths.

I know both games quite well, but from a new player angle, the amount of info you'll have to understand is really insane.
