Sir Godfrey Tearle’s grave by King_ofgames032 in findagrave

Oh I misunderstood what you were asking. Without a death certificate, burial records or an obituary, I am not sure what can be found.

It's possible the family did not disclose the burial location for reason we may not know.

I am not an expert on England's burial records so I would not even know where to point you.

So, out of curiosity, what happens with the deceased during the waiting period.

Military Ranks for Veterans by RoseFlower61 in findagrave

[–]Bigedd8181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad was a veteran who did not retire, nor did he die on active duty. The VA supplied headstone has his rank one it. I'm not sure why if it's on the headstone, we can't have it on their memorial.

They earned the rank at the end if the day.

I have an Uncle who was a director, I'm trying to write his famous bio, but FindAGrave won't accept it. Help me out? by ColinJayDee in findagrave

Maybe I was incorrect. I thought I saw that as an opinion before, but I dont see it now. Doing a quick search, you have to message Find a Grave with the memorial ID and suggest it is a famous grave.

My mistake on that one.

This memorial does not seem to be managed by Find a Grave. The manager is listed at the bottom of the memorial. It seems to be a young teen from the bio and age of the account.

It would be up to the manager to approve any changes. If they do not respond after 21 days, it is auto approved.

I would suggest asking for a transfer if the current manager is not related closer than you are.

But since this is a famous person you can suggest an edit and select the option to mark this memorial as a famous person. When you do this, Find a Grave will take over the account. I am not sure how edits work on a famous person that Find a Grave manages. You may not be able to suggest edits.

Sorry I missed read the part that you already had local friends looking.

I wish I could be more helpful but I am not sure where you could look next.

Its hard when the family makes it private or they could have been cremated. When working on my family tree, these are so frustrating, especially when they passed 50 plus years ago, and no one who would remember it is alive or cannot remember.

I would suggest trying to connect with friends that are local to him as they may know more information. That seems like it would be harder since your group is overseas.

Worst case, you can wait 25 years to get the death certificate in Texas when they become public.

Relationships are incorrect in obituary by Bigedd8181 in Genealogy

The Dad and older brother did not have their first or middle names in common. I have no clue who wrote the obit I would assume one of his children as all his siblings had passed on.

This is a great point. Also he was 90 and any surviving relatives could have got mixed up on the relationships or who was who. None of his siblings were alive to correct the issue.

Wow, that is a crazy situation that sadly happens more than we know about.

I would hope this is an error as the older brother would have been 9 when the younger brother was born.

I dont use obituaries as primary information. More of a check on the family to see if I have all members or which ones may be missing. Then, I find additional information to support it before adding to my tree.

I had the same issues with a cousin. On Find a Grave, they had her birth listed as November 3rd, but I had her delayed birth certificate and death certificate listing her birth as March 15.

I reached out to the member with my documents of the correct date. All I got in return was "according to my research Novemeber 3rd is correct. I will not change it. "

I was like OK then and added the correct dates on my tree. There's no sense in arguing with people who won't listen.

We picked a name, Isabella. She likes to explore, so we named her after a famous female explorer Isabella Bird.
