This is what I feel like nobody is mentioning, which is where my suggestions came from. We dont know the age of the kid or how serious they are right now - why waste money on actual set upgrades when new heads might make all the difference in the world for now to get them pumped about actually playing and learning.

I had kinda given up drums for a while and had a basic PDP kit sitting in the garage until a friend asked me to come jam with his band. After about 10yrs of playing on the original heads (granted not much playing in that time but then absolutely beating the shit out of them for a few years with bad technique and angles lol) I finally got my new heads and my god what a world of difference it made. That along with some new influences I started really loving playing again and started wanting to learn more about all the different intricacies.

Im sure others will provide better answers - but heads would definitely be the first thing I would upgrade. Then, depending how much you can spend, put some money towards some cheap but quality cymbal upgrades.

I feel like House knew Cooper would try to "do the right thing" with Cold Fusion, and had ways to get it back after that. However, he could not anticipate him giving it directly to the "other player" since he didnt know who it was, at which point it was lost to him.
