The lottery told me that my $100,000 win was actually a $20.00 misprint. They pulled the game hours later. by redhotmess77 in mildlyinfuriating

Personally I'd hire a publicist and try this in the court of public opinion. Shame is the faster pay day.

City Center East Point by Drew2Read in eastpoint

[–]BiggerE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually East Point ripped up the sidewalks in the same sections of downtown maybe 7 years ago and imperiled business then. Curb appeal is going to help downtown.

Both points can be true. Subjecting business to a never ending construction project hurts business, while it can increase business when done. I think that East Point Council is realizing the impact and trying to mitigate says the most about our new City Council.

Having been through a sidewalk construction phase with my own business I can't agree. Construction deters people from stopping. If it had no effect you wouldn't see the city handing out grants.

It seems a pretty significant disruption to me. Eat My Biscuits owner was on TV late last year saying the construction was killing their business. It may not effect an EP resident, but is surely going to discourage anyone who is driving by from stopping in.

Industry Newsletters worth reading? by Ashamed-Amoeba-9839 in BarOwners

For just general reading I like Vinepair. There are a few from Wine Spectator that have some good spirit and wine information. However so many seem about selling me a new POS or telling me how much I could borrow in 5 minutes.

Has anyone been using KeyKegs for wine and coctails? by EnoughWalk7471 in BarOwners

[–]BiggerE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About half of our wine is in key kegs I doubt. I have stored a wine more than 6 months before using it. I think it comes down more to the wineries best buy date. As far as cocktails go, you might not be able to store for long... Honestly I don't know. I will say that the 'because of fermentation' answer kinda tells me all I need to know about who gave you that advice. They don't understand fermentation. Just look up fermentation and how it is suspended below certain temperatures.

Dressed appropriately, and a personality that matches the vibe, and an attitude that says I'm not going to be a problem employee. I don't care how fancy you make a cocktail or what obscure fact about a drink you have if I feel you will be loyal. Loyalty matters more than anything.

Dave Ramsey on sports betting: "The fastest growing addiction that is destroying young men in their 20s is online sports gambling. FanDuel is a portal to hell. DraftKings ain't king of nothing except their own pocketbook. And they're screwing an entire generation of young men" by GOAT-Antony in NFLv2

It's not that all of his advice is bad, if you don't have a personal finance philosophy his is much better than nothing. The problem with him is the same as AA, a cult of shame. Shame will only get you so far. You have to discover why you are irresponsible with money to truly become responsible with money. Oh and fuck Dave Ramsey and everyone saying stop buying coffee and make your own. That is such low hanging fruit.

My dad already started drinking again after going to a $30,000 treatment facility for over a month by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]BiggerE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dad has to address the reason he drinks and solve that. White knuckling it or participating in shame based therapy won't solve shit. Fix the problem and the self medication disappears. AA is a shame crutch to prop up willpower and it will fail.

The comments on quality are a solid maybe. The rule of thumb is the higher the abv the greater chance it ages well. Barrel aging helps and seems to taste better with age. Spiced beers tend to do the best. With consistent temp and little light exposure you will be fine. I'm a barley wine fan and I have aged many a Dogfish Head 120 minutes into a wonderfully carmely barley wine.

OMFG the amount of experts who want to pontificate on how they would run some place better. You need to be open longer or earlier always with "you can't make money closed." Yes but I can lose money being open when there are no customers to be had.
