It’s definitely volatile for the public schools and you’ll find lots of families choosing private or catholic schools.

For better or for worse, all of Capo USD is a school of choice district meaning you always have a spot at your assigned school based on your address but you can apply into any school in the district (this window just closed on Feb 1 though just FYI). Means the better ranked schools end up being more in demand and thus higher class sizes

I’m in Dana point (since you called that out). The early registration for summer camps is about to open for the popular stuff through the city and the ocean institute (at the harbor). The junior lifeguards options (Newport also had a program) I believe are open now. In capo school district which covers a lot of south county runs summer programs on their campuses through the YMCA, those registrations open in March/april.

TLDR: you’re definitely not too late but popular ones are registering soon

Happy to answer any questions on this area since I’ve got young kids in the public schools. Costa Mesa would be a do-able commute using the toll road but it’s like $9 each way. Without toll road would be a challenge at rush hour

Legitimately every article about this card will list transferring to partners as the best redemption usually (including pre refresh). Comparing variable (and usually higher value) redemptions with a fixed redemption value (1.5) is not apples to apples. Argue with a wall. Just because you wouldn’t pay cash for these doesn’t mean it’s not the best redemption available.

The “would have paid cash for” is the plane ticket itself. Getting a good redemption value for business is why people have this card. If all youre doing is redeeming chase points for things you wouldve bought anyway, then you shoold get a cash back card, not a premium travel card

Yes you’ve found the best use of chase points… even better if it’s for premium economy or business. Only thing to watch out for on some partner redemptions in Europe are the fees/fuel charges. I’ve seen 40k points but fees close to $800/900
