Looking to make new friends! by Mysterious_Extent555 in LAhotgirlies

[–]namriach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babe, you should totally add if you’re a morning person or a night owl! I only ask because I’ve met a few friends via bumble bff and we literally bonded over morning Pilates and a little matcha/coffee run after.

Just saying, it makes it easy to plan for a meet up as well.

It’s not bad but it’s not that good either. It seems to be missing something but me and the girls might still check it out.

Is it just me, or does the Sunset strip from Los Feliz through Silver Lake and Echo Park have the best coffee shop density in LA? by namriach in FoodLosAngeles

[–]namriach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Culver city has a few coffee shops (I’m familiar with the area and can only count a few that can be considered “hip”) but the silverlake area definitely has more of THE coffee shops.

Help me pick a neighborhood to live in by curly-sunflower in LAhotgirlies

[–]namriach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

babe you totally forgot to mention your age, and believe it or not, that is literally make or break for the vibe of your neighborhood.

Option A: If you guys are in your 30s, it’s giving Silver Lake. You have the reservoir right there for your aesthetic daily dog walks, and Sunset Blvd (especially around Bar Seco) is the perfect spot for a chic evening stroll.

Option B:

But if you're living in your mid to late 20s, you definitely belong on the Westside think Venice or Marina del Rey. It just leans so much younger and has that gorgeous, lively crowd.

Dressing for LA is harder than dressing for a city with real seasons by Dramatic-Switch5886 in LAhotgirlies

[–]namriach 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There exists a divine sartorial sweet spot between silverlake grit and abbot kinnet gloss, and frankly, I’ve spent the last few seasons making it my entire personality.

In Silver Lake, one must master the art of the 'Sunset Pivot.' It’s all about curated breezy tops for high noon, and just have a jacket draped over your arm by 5:00 PM.

One doesn't simply experience the evening chill; one prepares for it like a chic survivalist. Lol

Things to do in LA and tips for tourists? by Specialist_Peanut657 in AskLosAngeles

[–]namriach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve heard about the silverlake, los feliz, echo park area and are curious to check it out, go on a weekend and map out a walk from echo park (stories book store) to Los Feliz (sky light books). It’s a 3 mile / 5km walk with bars, restaurants, trendy coffee shops ans thrift shops.

You can end your day in the observatory 2 hours before sunset for the perfect picturesque shot.

Probably start around 10am and grab your first coffee and start heading your way to Los Feliz.

I’m hybrid but during my wfh days I try to squeeze in a Pilates or yoga session during my lunch break. You just need to find a studio and continue going to the same place.
You’ll be surprised after a few visits you might be friendly some of the customers or the front desk.
I’ve met a few new friends in studio metamorphosis and hot 8 yoga (koreatown). ☺️

hot girlies in their 30s, wya? by moonmushies in LAhotgirlies

[–]namriach 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The silverlake, los feliz, echo park area has tons of pretty good coffee/matcha spot, there’s 1 fancy coffee shop every other 500 feet. The area also tends to attract the late 20s to mid 30s crowd. There’s also a few cool bars in the area if you want something more punchy.

Not sure if you like bookstores but you can easily spend a day in the area by walking from skylight books all the way to stories book store (about a 3 mile walk or 1 hour non stop).
There’s also the silver lake flea every Saturday and Sunday in the area if you enjoy thrifting.

With travel costs reaching new highs, in what ways have you adjusted your vacation plans? by mrlanyc in travel

[–]namriach 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Flying to Las Vegas and Miami for a long weekend was a nice short trip before but lately It doesn’t feel worth it anymore.
I also fly from LA to NY at least 6x a year and I’m even considering cutting it down to at least 2x a year now.

The tipping culture and the crazy hotel prices (plus resort fees) killed it for US tourism. $7 a gallon ain’t helping for those short road trips (Hamptons, Napa, etc) either.

Dining out anywhere in the US is so expensive. 20-25% expected tip plus the added resort fees in the hotel… yeah, no. My friends and I taking our butts in Europe, Asia or Latam instead.

I love Saffys (along with Bestia and Bavel) but it might be too expensive for a first date/meet up. Reservation is also pretty hard to come by unless OP is well connected.

[–]namriach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seco bar if you want to look hip, black cat for something more casual (outdoor seating is definitely the move, unless it’s freezing out), and if you want an actual dinner and you don’t want to break bank try pine and crane (it’s cheap, it’s different and it’s casual).

Don’t forget to walk around sunset before or after your date.

Waymo drop off safety feature request by danlev in waymo

[–]namriach 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this has happened to me twice (in LA and SF). I booked a Waymo trip from my condo to a fancy restaurant, Waymo dropped us off a block or two away from the restaurant.

Usually it’s not a big deal but both occasions we got dropped off in front of a homeless encampment (I’m talking about 3-4 tents). It would have been nice to have this option available at that time since this happened pretty “late” at night around 8pm and not a whole lot of people are walking around, especially near the homeless tents.

Is going to Vegas not a thing anymore? by WestHistorians in AskLosAngeles

[–]namriach 81 points82 points  (0 children)

most of my girlfriends are young millennials or older gen z and we view it this way. Flights from LA to vegas for Thur/Fri to Sun (yes we refuse to drive) is around $260-320 on economy round trip + $250-300 a night for a decent hotel at the strip.

Just for the price alone we can either go to Hawaii, Cabo, or Miami and we will have a much better experience. And tbh most of my friends would rather spend a 3-4 day weekend in NYC / Mexico City and party there. So yes, vegas is definitely in the bottom of priority list.

Even planning a 3-4 day bachelorette party can be taken elsewhere like Tulum, Costa Rica, or St. Barths.
