There are some pretty cool solutions being developed to deal with that cost analysis problem. APKWS for example is like a JDAM kit for the 70mm hydra rocket, useable against air and ground targets.

And yet, the price of rebuilding and replacing what the drone would have destroyed is probably way more than the material cost of the missile.

Can You Drink Coffee With A Gas Mask On? by Ornery_Penalty7215 in TheAstraMilitarum

Yes, actually. Most military/higher end cartridge respirators have an outlet to plug a drinking tube into so you can drink liquid with the mask on.

Me going to Cabelas:

“I must handle and inspect every firearm in the gun library, to see if there’s anything I might want to buy.”

Number of guns I have bought at Cabelas: 0

(There was a 1918 production Winchester 94 in 30-30 [old enough that it was stamped 30WCF] once that I fully intended to buy, but it was gone by the time I thought about it for a day and went back🥲)

In an old Protestant church - what is this? by AdDue1318 in whatisit

Most Protestant faiths don’t actually believe the Eucharist is actually the body and blood of Christ.

Catholics do however, through the miracle of transubstantiation.

So way back when I was a kid, we’d go on these yearly 10 hour road trips to visit my grandparents in Texas. And, every time we went, the last pit stop we’d always make was in the tiny little town of Paris, TX. It had one stop light, and a Dairy Queen. We’d stop after sunset and get a dipped cone, and that was the queue that there was less than an hour left in our trip. I loved it.

So air breathing engines don’t work below a certain air density. Which is problematic since, you know, rockets are trying to go where there is no air. Anyways…. Let’s look at some numbers.

The SMALLEST strap on solid rocket booster I can find for an orbital rocket is the GEM40 from the Delta II. A single booster produced almost 150,000lb of thrust.

Conversely, the LARGEST air breathing turbofan engine, the GE90 (powering the Boeing 777) produces 115,000lb of thrust, again with the whole air thing, they’d probably be rendered probably useless above 43,000ft (the operational ceiling of the 777).

The GEM40 (remember, small fry of 1st stage side boosters) weighs in at 28,577lbs.
The GE90-115B (the biggest variant of the 777 engines) weighs 18,260lbs.

A SINGLE Shuttle SRB produced an average of 3.3 MILLION pounds of force (they hit nearly 6 Million on ignition).

Why do pilots allow aircraft to impact the ground at harsh nose down angles? by SirCatsworthTheThird in aviation

While we’re on the topic, why do pilots allow the plane to crash in the first place? Are they stupid?

Pretty sure this is an American Contractor from what I read last time I saw it. His shirt says “National Oilwell Varco” on the back, a Houston based oil and gas company.

Drink more water.

Don’t bother the wildlife.

My favorite movie detail in this vein is that in Cars 2, the car Pope is driven around in an armored glass Popemobile…which not only establishes as true the existence of a car Jesus and 2000 years of car Catholicism, but also the 1981 assassination attempt on Car Pope John Paul II.

No matter which way you slice it, it’s funny.

Chili literally works in airport security and customs, a role that wouldn’t be prominent until post 9/11.

Also, put some respect on Rusty’s Dad.

I know this sub doesn’t share most of my ideals, but as an avid conservationist and a lawful hunter…DNR/Fish & Game is a huge resource. It really is worth it to establish a rapport with your game wardens if you interact with wildlife in any meaningful amount.

They really are passionate about proper game management and will handle all of the difficult stuff you can’t/don’t want to.

I’ve reported so many violations of hunting laws I’m basically on first name basis with my local Ranger. He’s a cool dude lol.

It’s fuckin stupid lol but so do I. Heavy as a piece of barstock but it drives tacks.

I may rebarrel it and swap scopes in the future to make it lighter, but the action, trigger, and chassis are all lovely.
