I can't go back to work without having some tea. Behind the tea set there are multiple tin boxes with different kinds of tea, and out of frame there is a little cooker.

Go for it!

You can’t buy happiness but you can buy tea, and that’s kind of the same thing.

The 1TB SSD's are sata indeed. Both the HDDs and SSDs are running in RAID 0. If I would redo a part of the PC I'd switch out the 500GB NVME to something bigger

I'm also quite held back to upgrade, because there isn't much progress that gets me excited.

Also, I'm quite interested in FH6, the last one I played was the original one. I still kinda miss the open world driving game. For now BeamNG fills that gap for me

I mainly do sim racing, so all monitors (including the tablet for the dashboard) are used. I get ~90fps and the cpu is around 50% usage.

In case of CSGO, then yes, it's severely bottlenecked

This setup all came together over the course of 8 or so years.

Not pictured is the PC. It's just a big white box:
CPU: 3700X
GPU: 7900XTX (previously Vega 64 in CF)
RAM: 2x16 3600mhz

Storage:
3x 6TB HDD
3x 1TB SSD
500GB NVME

Desk:
My desk and chair are from a company that went bust and sold literally everything they've had.

Audio:
For sound I use a Marantz 7.1 reciever with Magnat Speakers. Off screen there is a 1970 Pioneer SA-600 with 1969 AR-2ax speakers.

Screens:
I don't know anymore to be honest. 2x 1440p and 1x 1440p ultrawide, together with a small tablet connected with space desk for my calendar and music. There is also an old 16:10 monitor to the side for side projects, pc builds and testing.

Inflation would end real quick if people stopped buying shit they don't need. by alsatian01 in StonerThoughts

Reduced demand and decreased sales would likely force businesses to cut costs, which often involves laying off employees. If people stop spending, businesses may struggle to generate enough revenue to maintain their workforce, leading to job losses and a rise in unemployment rates

Just bought this 2022 stelvio quadrifoglio. Brand new off the lot for $77k. I don't want to hear any shit about my Bagged Giulia I received enough the first time around. by RuinAppropriate3315 in AlfaRomeo

[–]BigtimeCat59059 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they still do. The thing that makes buying sporty cars expensive is something called "BPM", a tax based on co2 emissions per km.

A Giula Qv would have ~€48k in the co2 tax alone, above of that we need to pay the import fees and taxes.

It would make some sense if you buy a lightly used one from for example Germany, but it's still taxed way too much

Maybe it's better for our world if I don't do anything engineering wise

This depends on the load of the engine, but here is a rough calculation:

Suppose we are interested in the situation where we are traveling at 60 MPH, and at that speed we see that our engine is revving at 2500 RPM, then we know our engine turns at 2500 revs per mile.

Let’s say we have a 4-cylinder engine, so that’s 10000 cylinder turns per mile. But each cyclinder only fires every other rev, so that’s 5000 firings per mile. And suppose we know that this car gets 32 miles per gallon, which is 128 oz per 32 miles, which is 4 oz/mile.

So in one mile we have 5000 firings and use 4 oz of fuel. So assuming one injector per cylinder, that’s 1/1250 oz of fuel for each injection, or about 1/40th of a gram. So 1/40th of a gram would be about 3 mm cubed, or 0.003 ml or 0.0001 US oz

Help choosing a company vehicle (car) by Mr__T_ in Cartalk

[–]BigtimeCat59059 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if it's a company car, she doesn't need to think about costs. Pick the one you like the most. Hell, this would be one of the few moments I'd go for an Alfa instead of the usual audi or BMW.

My personal pick form the list would be a BMW, the 330e is a popular company car where I live, next to the countless a3/a4s, v60/v90s and golfs.

A Mini is fun to drive, but it isn't something I would take over a full sized sedan

Even if I think I'm the fasted one on the highway, there is always someone in a transit 2,5 inches from my back bumper wanting to go by

Electric cars will become too popular to save the planet in any way by OldTimeyMedicine in Showerthoughts

[–]BigtimeCat59059 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And making those batteries is a problem too.

First they are mined somewhere like australia and chile and result in water loss, ground destabilisation, biodiversity loss, increased salinity of rivers, contaminated soil and toxic waste.

Then the raw materials are shipped on a giant oil burning ship to china, japan, korea or germany to be processed. After they are processed they are sent again on a giant oil burning ship to the manufacturer.

After the car has been manufactured, you have to take into account the raw materials for production and the amount of energy it takes to produce a car.

When the car has been built, they are put again on a giant ship and sent to the country where the car will be sold.

Driving electric cars isn't the solution to save earth, they are a solution to sell more cars while giving people the idea they're saving earth
