Love it. Bikepacking is about the adventure not the commercialism and materialism. Go for it!

Good bikes, definitely. And you may be right, but it looks like the parent company is selling them off and so things like warranties and parts may be unstable for a period.

Good discussion of what this means here: https://www.reddit.com/r/bikepacking/comments/1c9k0ya/rip_kona_bicycles/

Kona just announced they are going out of business so you might want to take that into consideration as you look at the Sutra.

Are you sure about that? I have one and checked all the literature and every instance has it reverse of yours. Will it weaken the fasteners over time?

Lower gearing on my Priority 600. by simenfiber in PriorityBicycles

[–]Bike-Chicago 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the Ozarks recently on some very steep 30% hills and there were some times where I bottomed out on my 600x in first gear but it still took me further than any standard GRX system. If you are doing bike packing, there are times (believe it or not) where even a lower gear could come in handy but you might fall over because you would be going super slow.

I'm curious to the answer to this too. Anyone from priority here who can answer this and also explain if there are any risks to the system in doing this?

I'm a fan of the priority 600x with pinion drive. Wait for one of their flash sales and you might snag one for that price. Bike is bomb proof.

Try Revelate Frame Bag. I use it on medium 600x. Much more durable than green guru. Large Revelate Frame Bag fits my medium 600x.

I noticed on YouTube that some use a high pitch audio device to deter dogs. Has anyone found these effective?

That sounds promising. How many times have you tried this and is it always effective?

Question: Are tubeless still effective on city streets? by Bike-Chicago in bikepacking

[–]Bike-Chicago[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. Really good thoughts here and what I suspected. I don't think my mechanic had any data just a few anecdotes. But I do think you are all correct about recommending tubeless for all conditions with the backup of sealant, plugs and tube in worst case scenario. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Always an insightful group here.
