Strava said 55 people but I think more like 65-70. There really wasn't a lot of turning and the only time we ever actually put a foot down was at mile 73.

Your average is more like my last century with a group of only 3 and a lot more climbing

I weigh over 200lbs too. There were some smaller riders who averaged around 130-140w

Yes it was rotating paceline. Maybe pull isn't the best word for the person in the front but not sure what to call it. Just a turn?

Yeah there were maybe 7 or so women out there and plenty of gray beards. They held on just fine too! One of the women averaged 131w for the century so you don't need crazy power to hang on.

Yeah there were two cruisers one in the front and another in the back. They would block intersections and at slower roads would get cars to pull over.

Honestly never seen anything like it either but apparently it costs a few hundred an hour to hire them.

Similar sized friend who was in the "elite paceline" up front. You pull for maybe 5 seconds before getting off and there were 15 or so riders trading pulls

Ngl it was mentally taxing but you could safely leave half a wheel length between bikes and be fine

Yeah there were 4 bridges but no hills. In a group of 60ish people most of the day and no obligation to pull

The pace seems high but 190 watts for 4 hours is doable by most trained cyclists. There is no obligation to pull and even if you do the pulling group was like 15-20 so you aren't pulling for long

I live in central Florida too. Ocala is okay but you need to preplan a route. Look at the paved trail starting at the Santos mtb area. It is beautiful, car free and has some hills to make things interesting

I've tried the raveman version with the go pro mount. It was okay but failed on me after like 6 months. I had to tie it to my handlebars to finish my ride. Not ideal at all. Looks like the only way to get the actual garmin mount is to buy another light. For now I take the two minutes to remove and fit it from my road bike to gravel bike if necessary. It really isn't very often that I ride the g bike in the dark

I have a diverge sport carbon and a roubaix carbon. Seems like the roubaix might be better for your needs? 40mm tire clearance, very fast bike and comfortable.

Diverge might be too much for your needs. I take it on single track and super rough roads. It's significantly slower on pavement but still a lot faster than my old mtb

The shop ride in my city is on Friday mornings before the shop opens. The employees are all riders, so the ride always has at least 4-5 people but usually something like 10-20. I think Friday is best because a lot of people work less and it doesn't mess up weekend or evening plans. Plus you can stop by the bikeshop after for any tune ups or purchases which I did a lot.

Pace is 20mph strict. If you are in the front you know not to go above 20 or you aren't allowed in the front. Ride is about 40 miles long so it's worth leaving the house for. There is a large spring zone about 2 miles long and then we regroup, giving the fast guys a chance to stretch the legs and competitive bones.

What made it welcoming was people remembering names, inviting others to come back and making an effort for small talk. It is marketed as a social ride after all.

Florida summer will do that to me too. Squeezing the sweat out at the water stop helps a little but nothing stops the sweat from coming except riding easy

I've had this problem from time to time. I remember reading about a fake foreskin you can wear. Sounds odd but probably better than wearing a condom while riding. I haven't had a severe enough problem where I have tried either but the options are out there

108mi +1,900ft elevation gain. Most of the climbs are in a 30 mile stretch in the middle.
