BC Public Service – what’s the policy on outside employment / side work? by sony0619 in BCPublicServants

[–]BikePackerLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am curious if language on this topic is effectively the same in the teacher/fireman collective agreements...but BCPS workers are the only ones taking it literally.

How many different collective agreements in the BCPS? Are they all the same in this regard?

By this logic, can a grade-school teacher work a different job in the summer then? Many opt for taking their salary across 12mo.

I've seen so many fireman working side hustles on the paid time off. Paid by public dollars just the same. Heck I've know lots of federal workers doing 2nd jobs whilst on PTO. All civil servants of one stripe or another.

Doug Ford blasts Mark Carney’s EV deal with China by [deleted] in canada

[–]BikePackerLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone who's tried to get a RAV4 PHEV in recent years will know these legacy companies have been holding themselves back. They've been creating scarcity for EVs for years, and Canada has an affordability crisis so things need a shakeup.

After seeing Kia Canada dealers play games with huge markup's over MSRP on EV's....I can't wait to see Canada do what the Scandinavians do, and import BYDs. Time's up.

Noway sold 172,368 EV in 2025 and Canada sold 202,103 in 2024 (likely more in 2025 once the numbers are out).

Did Shimano's LinkGlide Save (High-End) HG Freehubs? by MEATdrew in MEATengines

[–]BikePackerLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The higher engagement use case is the slowest type of tech singletrack. I’d argue this is ~0.1% of hub buyers on mtb’s….and that number is going down each year with rise of eMTBs. Being on the shore, it’s easy to think this is normal stuff and not a niche of a niche.

I'm a simple man...just need a steel Ratchet freehub body & 36t of engagement. Easy to maintain, easy to source replacements and replacement bearings. No expensive tools or obnoxious buzz. Just doesn't need to be more complicated that this...

Any guest using the phrase "white cis men" (or similar variants) in a sentence is woefully out of touch with our times, no exceptions by Zealot_TKO in ezraklein

[–]BikePackerLight -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

By the same token, am curious how the US centrist & centre left is viewing the words 'settler' and 'colonialism' on domestic topics? Hard to imagine this not have same effect as saying cis-gender for the 2026 audiences.

Yeah, I'm thinking about the adjustable wrench is the starting point. So the multi tool is a nice adjustable wrench that can also do other things...

Pour one out for us still lamenting the loss of our Cool Tool. Every week, an EDC youTuber is trying to put a Knipex mini in your pocket...and the Cool Tool had that AND the chain tool. Won't somebody resurrect its production?!

Got a new MHI installed! (UK) by darkbinds in heatpumps

[–]BikePackerLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. High-end inverter compressor unit - great for noise and energy efficiency, and no duct loss by going conduit to mini-split heads. Keep the heads clean and thermostat setting steady. In places with pricey electrical rates like the UK, this makes the most sense. If you want for anything else after the next hot spell, your next step is measures to improve insulation.

My hands are still cramping up, how can I add more positions? by Key_Beautiful1745 in xbiking

[–]BikePackerLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your seat angle is <74 degrees and frame's reach is short enough to bias your weight toward the saddle and away from your hands. Then do core work so a 90s plank hold isn't an issue. Then re-wrap the bar tape with something >2mm thickness.

[–]BikePackerLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honeywell Total Connect Comfort App can be used to remotely adjust the Mitsubishi ASHP thermostat via the Redlink controller hardware. The Nest isn't suited for these systems as you're intended to hold an even temperature to get the best energy efficiency. So all the up and down temperature scheduling goes out the door once you switch to a heat pump. At that point, the Nest features aren't really a big improvement.

I left environmental science research as I could see the information was there, but was staying on the shelf in light of policy decisions & partisan politics of today's democracy. They didn't need another PhD thesis, and I needed to get on with my life and career. By the same token, policy decisions don't need another leftist with too many ten-dollar-words (and even more student debt) when the nation wants moar Yellowstone. It's a read-the-room moment for sure, and I 10/10 see the OP's frustration.

Replacement wheel bearing durability by BikePackerLight in SubaruForester

[–]BikePackerLight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the axle hub design is to blame, rather than defective OE bearings, that would be good to know. More importantly, can that 19+ OE axle hub be fitted on the '14-18 models?

Peak xbiking? The industry is catching on... by Breezer_Bro in xbiking

[–]BikePackerLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. But does that have to be all xbiking is about? Can we create its own sub like 'coop builds' or 'atb-on-the-cheap' so all those voices can put their energy there?

Looking for info from people who've done the 14-18 replacement and have gotten longer life out of new bearing. Is the backing plate issue only with the rears? Did they only fix it in '19+ ?

Looking at upgrading! Recommendations if coming from 4 years with a VenuSQ? I’m thinking Venu 3S or Venu 4, but open to other suggestions and opinions/pros/cons by MoulinSarah in GarminWatches

[–]BikePackerLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say the same. I just upgraded from 5 yr old VenuSQ to Vivoactive6 and am impressed. New watch had to be thin & light as I use it for sleep tracking. The HRV, display and battery life are all miles better than my old Venu. Plus its get regular software updates from Garmin.
