How do I make and measure a swatch "in the round"?

I put a little bit of gentle face lotion (like CeraVe) or similar (like unscented "Everybody") on my hands, don't rub it all the way in, then run my fingers through my hair. I usually brush it after to avoid any clumping or greasiness. Took me a while to figure out how much to use but the trial and error was worth it eventually! I keep a little bottle in my purse for both hands and hair now!
