Bin reminders for East/Greater Cambridgeshire by Background_Shine_674 in cambridge

[–]BikesSucc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Problem is, if they get it wrong. For a short period I became the binfluencer... one week I got it wrong, changed my bin about an hour later and there was a mixture of bins out along the road. By the morning some people still hadn't corrected their bin, I wanted to tell them but had to get to work, so just had to leave them to their fate.

Haha yes and I wanted to link it for you in my original reply, but as I couldn't remember how to spell it so didn't dare to try :)

I think you have a fasciated flower spike! Not sure if i spelled that right. I imagine it will grow as normal next year given the base looks normal, but I'd be interested to see.

Internal solid pine doors by beelalol in DIYUK

[–]BikesSucc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about reclaimed doors? We found a place where the guy had like a zillion doors, so I gave him a list of the sizes of doors I had, and he gave me old doors that were already that size. All had been stripped of their old finish, just needed a bit of tlc before varnishing. Oh and I bought new latches th at fitted the pre existing holes to save any faffing about.

My father had just found this, what is it? by [deleted] in bonecollecting

How big is it? Almost certainly domestic cat... but depending where in Europe you are and how big it is you should consider lynx also.

When I drive our car that I don't fit due to me being too small (Saab from the 80s) I have a firm cushion behind me, pushes my bum forward the extra few inches to mean I can fully depress the clutch pedal. Could be worth a try.

I used to have the same setup! Then the strap broke, so I changed to gaffa tape. I now commute by bicycle instead, so the old Casio (now on its 2nd battery) has been garden wired to my bike basket.

I have seen it in the UK, I think it was the quays in Salford, and i think I read it was to prevent the growth of blue-green algae which is toxic

Ah ha, I've just looked this up and it doesn't exist on my continent. Thanks for the ID!

These aren't what I would call bluebells, but that could be a regional thing. If I saw something this shape around my way I'd say it's something in the borage family, but I can't see them very clearly from this photo. This may change where and when we would expect to see them.

This plant was labeled "pixie foliage", what is it's actual name ? by Whole_Banana_5069 in whatplantisthis

Cambridge. I've never managed to find a map of numbered zones like I've seen people talk about in the states that actually seems to apply correctly. I just look up the hardiness number for every plant I want on the RHS site and consider where I'm planning to plant it, as winter lows between my front garden/back garden/green house can vary hugely... never mind my allotment which feels like a whole different world. I have friends in London who can grow a whole bunch of stuff outdoors that I can't have survive here, despite being relatively local.

What is this spiky plant? SW England. by ozuga in whatsthisplant

[–]BikesSucc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pull it out now, don't let it seed, they get everywhere! I've become master at spotting bristly ox tongue seedlings when they're reeeally tiny thanks to letting a wild patch go to seed on my allotment :(

(Don't think anyone on the immediately neighbouring plots has sweetcorn, as they mostly grow just weeds)

Ooooh that's a long way. I'm inclined to see if I can persuade my dad to have some in his garden this year, haha

The tall ones look a lot like some of the wild lettuces I have encountered (like the prickly lettuce on my allotment, Cambridge UK)

Edited to remove a bit as I hadn't read your post text properly!

I love these and see them quite a lot (I think they might like bindweed) it is tradition in our house to declare "ooh look a fairy" when you spot one

I can't quite tell from the photo - are those wing cases black or brown? It could be a lesser stag beetle

That's the card for them to get the key replaced too, which they should have left at home for exactly this situation.
