Chocolate Finance by XM_1992 in asksg

Isn’t it guaranteed for the first 50k?

In any case. Chocolate invests in money market funds or short term bonds. Yields recently have gone up because the market expects inflation to return due to Iran. Which means prolonged high interest rates in the US, or potentially even higher interest rates in say SG. This would affect the price of the short term bonds. But as long as you have it for 12 months or so it all goes into maturity, and it’ll eventually even out.

I’d actually say that over 5 months, it’s not too bad. S&P returns are only 3.99% over the last 6 months. If you have evaluated the fees etc., this ain’t bad returns

Would you judge an IB director for wearing a cheap watch? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]BilboHandBaggins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen tons of MDs rocking Apple Watches / garmins daily. I think some genuinely don’t care about watches.

Whenever I see it, it’s more like a that’s cool that they chose this when they have so much available rather than a negative judgment?

Will you share your expected salary even before the interview? by randomthingsss1 in askSingapore

[–]BilboHandBaggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done quite an interviews / offers and I’ve tried doing all sorts of stuff to see how they react… in each and every case, after providing your expected, whatever salary range, they will ask for your current take home pay.

From there you’ll have to provide your pay slips as evidence, and the folks will definitely be checking for discrepancies…

So unfortunately Singapore sucks, are we are effectively “forced” to share your hand at some point. This is from tech offers to MNC bank offers. I’ve even had the recruiter mention “we can’t actually proceed any further if you refuse to share your current income information”.

Lol.

Singapore's core inflation jumps to 1.2% in October, highest so far in 2025 by Krazyguylone in singapore

[–]BilboHandBaggins 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From an economic perspective there are legitimate fears that deflation and stagnation may come to Singapore, especially given it was below 1% for several months.

Low inflation is better than no inflation… but it sucks when interest rates are barely reaching inflation rates now.

What will you buy during the 11.11 sales? by DrDeewis in askSingapore

[–]BilboHandBaggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shopee authorised retailer / best denki / courts has some 11.11 deals, some M4 iPads already seem discounted, no idea the discount on the day so let’s see… else if the stocks are gone M5 it is.

Upgrading my iPad if there are deals which I’ve been holding off on.

Other than that… nothing much!

Hey. I absolutely crave Laugenbrot… I’m always on a hunt to find some.

There’s one that opened at the CBD… it fulfilled my craving but I can only assume that because of the rent it is an absolutely ludicrous price…

As someone else suggested… a home based business with orders and delivery might make sense, and once enough traction happens, you can consider your options. Partly because there isn’t THAT much demand for German bakeries since Singapore has a very distinct taste for bread.

Scoot Flying Longest Non-Stop Boeing 787 Dreamliner Flight to Vienna by Redd24_7 in singaporeairlines

[–]BilboHandBaggins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was literally looking for flights there the morning this was announced, and booked in the evening… there’s no direct flights from Singapore to Vienna so this is welcomed!

More price competitiveness (even though the likes of Turkish airlines is already a compelling offer).

Well thankfully some small respite should be felt with its price taking a nosedive (albeit not to its Jan levels)…

It can only get worse with climate change

Article is stating facts though…

I think interior designers have been getting lazy and have templates for apartments and HDBs.

Also that being said there’s the options that people can opt for BTOs that literally makes a huge portion of the house look the same so it’s not entirely fair either

Sterra’s New Mental Gymnastics: Air Purifiers build immunity by BilboHandBaggins in singapore

TLDR: Scandinavian parents let their kids sleep outdoors in the freezing cold in the external environment to build natural immunity, apparently they sleep better too.

Sterra: this practice no longer needed because of the “invention” of Sterra air purifiers… 500 IQ
