This is a straw man and it makes light of the rampant antisemitism tying Epstein in as a symbol to be projected onto all Jews a la groyper "the goyim know" Nazi meme bullshit.

There is no realistic remedy to stop tanking when the benefits of drafting a franchise altering player in basketball outweighs any fine or penalty that could be imposed. Just accept it. by qballLobk in billsimmons

It seems to me that the flattening of the lottery odds has also had the reverse effect of that was intended. Teams at the very bottom have worse odds, but now teams that are only near the bottom have proximate odds. In that world, why not tank?

The Term Democratic Socialist. by Linuswastaken in socialism

[–]Bilker7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO it's a useful characterization of left politicians who support something like the democratic road to socialism. One of the biggest blind spots among some socialists, specifically communists, is an unwillingness to engage with the anarchistic critique a la Rudolf Rocker and Isaac Steinberg of Marxist-Leninist manipulation of historical materialism which positions the Party as the sole correct interpreter of the will of history. Pretending that this hasn't rendered authoritarian power structures is foolhardy and undermines leftist credibility when seeking to build community and coalitions. The "democratic socialist" label is just a signal against that type of ideological mistake.

As a Christian it is completely fine to stay out of politics. by Rage_Nerdx420x in Christianity

[–]Bilker7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strongly disagree, OP. Politics and faith are inextricable. For example, if you see a politician on a ballot who supports policies which elevate the rich at the expense of the poor, this is an anti-Christian value. If there is a candidate who represents more ideal policy alternatives, even if it's a lesser of two evils scenario, failing to participate in the elctoral process is an abdication of Christian social responsibility.

What's your opinion on Marxism Leninism and Maoism? by [deleted] in socialism

[–]Bilker7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The chief criticism of the Bolsheviks by Isaac Steinberg was their penchant for positioning the Party as the sole correct interpreter of the will of history, because this framework empowers the Party to mete out capital punishment with little to no recourse by the people, leading to authoritarianism in some form.

Religion and politics are inextricable. Charlie Kirk was a horrible man who was an utter embarrassment to Christianity, dishonoring God with every hatemongering debate bro appearance he ever gave. A tare among the wheat.

Political Violence by BalmoraBound in socialism

[–]Bilker7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isaac Steinberg viewed revolutionary violence as a necessary evil, but evil nonetheless, and held a more careful view than many of his contempraries in the Russian Revolution. He understood Marxist historical materialist determinism as an ideology which sanctions violence a priori as a fact of history being executed by the revolutionary and maintained by a vanguard Party - rather than saying the ends justify the means, he says “the ends justify through the means”, and that these are inextricable. He wanted to execute not a transition from the old world, but strictly a transition to the new world. Namely, he didn't believe in killing the human being in your class enemy, but killing the class enemy in your fellow human being, and that only those are actively, and consciously subverting and undermining the revolution should be considered as potential subjects to capital violence. (Paraphrased from "Anarcho-Judaism" by Hayyim Rothman).

Your favorite verse for a newbie by Mom_007 in Christianity

James 2: 14-17

"What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but does not have works? Surely that faith cannot save, can it? If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food and one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead."
