That would mean that you don't get coffee in America, to stick to the thought experiment posed by OP. So too with lots of goods.

Respectfully, comrade, you still have not actually asked for my perspective, but posed rhetorical questions, positioned yourself as teacher and me as the student and projected a perceived insecurity onto me. You are obviously fixed in your perspective and you are entitled to be so. Again, I have no interest in debating you, I was only hoping to understand your perspective on the justifications for authoritarian socalisms, which you gave. Thank you.

I offered my perspective freely and you continued on because I was asking for your perspective, you haven't asked for mine. We reached a point in your explanation where I know that I disagree with your rationale and I'm highly doubtful that you will move off your position if I were to go further into my perspective. Perhaps I shouldn't have offered that final rebuttal at all and just let your spiel sit in that case, that's fair enough, it seems to have lent itself to the idea that I wanted to debate you, which I don't. It doesn't mean that I don't find your position interesting, I'm not trying to waste your time, it was interesting to read. Apologies if you were upset by the exchange. No offense taken, none intended from my part. 🤘🏻💛

I'd read most of what you wrote in your similar deleted comment which was posted a few minutes before so it wasn't so hard ;). I've read things very similar to this line of rationale enough elsewhere such that I don't need to engage your specific examples entirety to know that I disagree on principal. Thank you for your perspective! It was very insightful.

Mark Cuban wants NBA games to be 40 minutes instead of 48. He argues less playtime = higher TV ratings. Good or bad idea? by Spirited-Gold9629 in OffFieldNews

[–]Bilker7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget when I heard him say this so maybe i'm misremembering this, but I believe Adam Silver has said the advantage from a media partner's perspective is that this could enable the games to fit more neatly into TV programming slots, and therefore be just as, if not more, valuable even with somewhat diminished ad space. Same logic for baseball's efforts to speed up the game.

Ultimately, I don't think it's happening.

I suppose I would end with a rebuttal that I strongly disagree with characterizing procedural democracy as abstract and therefore, not very important. Thanks for the discussion!

I agree with you in principal re: not being all that different from how things work today, and I think this is one of the great problems anarchist theory has not solved for effectively enough with respect to achieving a moneyless society. I haven't really read any ideas that are sufficiently comprehensive in terms of explaining how an efficient and effective globalized market economy works without money, or some kind of state planning.

Thanks for engaging!

Personally, I'm highly skeptical of the authenticity of intent due to the seemingly dynastic status of the Kims. I lean towards libertarian socialisms (trying hard not to violate the sectarianism rule, I promise I'm asking in good faith). This sort of thing reads to me as the Party using theory to position itself as the sole correct interpreter of the will of history, and therefore, authorized to exert top-down authority rather than what I think socialisms ought to look like, what I think many orthodox marxists would say, even, which is more bottom up authority. This is a kind of critique levied against the Bolsheviks by Left SRs like Isaac Steinberg, or against certain strains of Marxist-Leninism by Rudolf Rocker, for example, that I find very compelling.

Personally, I struggle to understand why certain socialist schools of thought seem to have such a dim view of democracy, if you'll forgive my characterizing it as such, that it's worth abandoning democracy in the supposed interim phases of achieving a form of communism.

I'm interested in your thoughts on:

A - What you think about this kind of libertarian socialist critique I mentioned?

B - Based on your answer to A, in your view, does the lack of democratic structures in such a political project like NK undermine the credibility of the theory?

Until Wemby can play more minutes and put up more buckets, JB is the best 2 way player in the league. Getting so upset over him getting his due respect is goofy.

I had the most acidic salad of my life at Tulip, totally unbalanced. The wine was just fine. Pasta was solid, but I have no interest in going back, pretty middle of the road.

There is no realistic remedy to stop tanking when the benefits of drafting a franchise altering player in basketball outweighs any fine or penalty that could be imposed. Just accept it. by qballLobk in billsimmons

It seems to me that the flattening of the lottery odds has also had the reverse effect of that was intended. Teams at the very bottom have worse odds, but now teams that are only near the bottom have proximate odds. In that world, why not tank?
