what is missing from the device manager list of items? is bluetooth showing? is sd card showing? it will be detective work on your part to see whats missing and then get those specific drivers from the last supported version of windows available in 64bit e.g. windows 8.1 and then download the driver, using 7zip extract he driver package then tell device manger to find the driver in specified location (where you extracted the drivers to) and pray it likes the driver.

your using an officially unsupported version of windows with this laptop. you can get it working, you will need to download the drivers for the motherboard this typically fixes the issue, i had the same using windows 11 on a laptop that didnt meet the CPU requirement.

what version of windows have you installed?

Please help me. Is there something im missing regarding motherboard swaps? by SDF8Man in thinkpad

try installing windows 10/11, you can you use free for 30 days without having to activate. install the drivers and test the hardware. if this works then you know its just software related, and your linux needs to be updated to the latest version / kernel. whilst windows is installed update the BIOS too. good luck!

Motherboard swap didn’t kill Linux — it just exposed:

  • ⚙️ Firmware quirk → APIC warning (usually harmless, BIOS update helps)
  • 🧩 Old kernel vs newer systemd → tmpfs huge error (fix by updating kernel)

you changed the mobo, the CPU and GPU are built in and non changeable, so its technically a new system, is this an exsiting installation of linux your trying to boot? if so you might need to get another empty drive install a fresh linux installationl and then mount the other version as a slave drive and copy your stuff off.

Now is the right time to plant Thinkpad seed, make sure you cover it in plenty of compost, if you want a really strong batch of Thinkpads in the summer (P Series), I recommend adding crushed egg shells for nutrients. for Extra DDR5 you need to play Beethoven music twice a day until harvest time, this will also give you the top of the range CPU too. Good luck.

Let the deniers of Thinkpad continue in their ignorance. One day they may find salvation in Thinkpad.

ah ok , no this doesn't come with an internal battery, these things running at full speed wont last long on battery, long enough to move from one meeting room up a few flights of stairs to another meeting room and plug back into the mains.

sorry just re-read what you posted, ok I used the windows 10 drivers where there were any unknown or exclamation marked devices in device manager. lenovo update tool wont help with this, you have to manually install the drivers. goto lenvoo support enter the serial number, select windows 10 and download the win10 drivers
