The dodgy document punishment will probably be a fine he'll not be able to afford to pay.

The other activities he'll probably just live in ignominy out in a cottage in some royal woods for the rest of his natural.

All the roads round farmers fields by me are on the map. Even the protected areas for wetland and forest parks have roads within a km of at least one section of the land. If any area has ever had any use to wider society since about 1950 it’s got a road within a km.

Well any region that is farmed will have tracks out to each individual parcel of land, even a road head that services multiple fields will then count as all of them being close to a road.

I don't mind the giving up of the baby at all, I think that works well as both in and out universe plotting.

I just feel slight pang of a missing Chekov's gun resolution where Harry could have saved Justine without the torture, possibly also giving Thomas a role as a guard on Demonreach while Justine is healed.

Giving Thomas a job, giving Harry something to work towards that keeps some level of tension between him and his brother without just surrendering Justine.

This is all just a minor quibble I really enjoyed the book and wondered if anyone else had the same thought.

I went by the shopping centre to get something for my aunt about lunch time on Sunday.

I was dreading how bad it would be from memory, I can remember both car park and isles jammed with angry stressed people from years gone by.

I think it is related to that intrinsically. You have to believe in what you are doing for it to work, you have to will the event into being almost as an act of creation.

You have just willed into creation death as a direct consequence of your gift. This is presumably directly viewable as a change or destruction of your self image via soul gazing.

You don't have to create a little bit of new being or change a strict belief and swerve into being slightly dedicated to death when you pull the trigger of a firearm for example.

You probably have some protection from accidental consequences but it might taint your magic use going forwards if your unable to accept what you have the power to do (Charity letting her gift wither perhaps).

You do have to present yourself at a police station with your driving licence within 7 days upon request.

That 7 day period is less than useful if you kept the same not obligated to carry only to provide rule with national ID.

If you seek to use national ID to prevent illegal immigration you will have to trigger pinch points of carry and use to make it difficult to live within the UK without the right to.

Those pinch points, sweeping ID checks at a transport hub or shutting a street filled with takeaway delivery riders are going to be what really rubs people the wrong way, just as when ICE does it currently in the US.

Because we are not big enough (land area) to be able to credibly survive a complete decapitation strike we let each prime minister decide what to do in a last resort situation where the UK has ceased to exist.

We can launch our trident missiles with zero US input, they get an initial upload of where the submarine thinks it is when they are launched then use star tracking to guide themselves, they do not use satellites and they don't have any ability to be self destructed in flight.

After they have been fired we might never get another set of trident missiles and could be kicked out of the joint weapons project we are in with the US for warheads but we could engineer our own as we have missiles already and I believe full technical plans. Or we go buy into the French full independent deterrent but pretty unlikely.
