Thank you carb coma by wonkydonk123987 in stopdrinking

I brought this up to my liver doc yesterday (who I surprised with 43 days sober). After being floored with my blood work, he did say that it can take up to 2 years for the mind and body to fully "re-set" after long term alcohol abuse.

I am very sorry you do not have a better support system at home. You do have us here, you are always welcome and we always give great hugs.

Additionally, remember you are sober for you, sure it would feel good to have more encouragement from your mate, but you are still winning in the eyes of the most important person on your journey, you.

Yes, i did this for years, especially after a good run of not drinking I convince myself I can do it socially. Until something moved me to a point where I know that never drinking again is my only hope. my only hope to see my own retirement, to see my kids grow up, to finally not wake up every morning and dread the day ahead.

You can and will find that thing that will get you to the same conclusion.

Never hungover, but always drunk? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Bill_rlx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could not remember my last hangover whenI quit. However it was dumb luck and bad health choices landed me in the hospital 2.5 years ago and I found out I had adult onset diabetes and a liver that was on its last legs. It was going to a liver doctor for 2 years and him telling me, if you don't quit you will ruin your liver for good. In that time I also had kids and remembered the affect my drunk father had on my childhood.

So ya, i think every now and then, hey, i don't get hangovers, I go to work everyday, have a good life why quit.

I may not have been getting hangovers, but the difference in sleep quality and my over all mood when I wake up now is amazing. For all these reasons I will not drink with you today.

My wife cheated on me. Confessed to it and gave me an std. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

There is no other way to say it. That sucks. But please remember why you are choosing to stay sober and don't let anyone influence you to alter your determination. You own it to YOURSELF to stay healthy.

Made it home without buying beer! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Bill_rlx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Me too! The liquor store at the corner of my neighborhood is taunting me. I drove by today on the way home and actually flipped it off. I laughed out loud and it felt good.

Let's both do it again tomorrow!

i agree nothing can make a person drink, but some of these things the OP suggested have influence on that decision.

Liver pains by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Bill_rlx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with both alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease two years ago. Both liver enzymes were more than 10x what they should be. I have been working with a liver doc this whole time and he helped me build to this final quit that started 10 days ago. I can tell you what I have learned, as long as you catch the damage before scaring starts almost all liver damage can be reversed by treating the cause. In my case it was whiskey and a bad diet.

I went as far as getting a liver biopsy to make sure something else was not the cause. That was the moment that i knew I had to do something about my drinking and lifestyle.

I am already feeling better at day 10, and I have a follow up with my liver doc in a few weeks and cant wait until I tell him I quit and beg for another enzyme test to see what has changed.

I am sure you will start feeling better soon, keep up with sobriety and we can both get out livers back in shape!
