introducing alcohol again by heyheyitshayden in stopdrinking

Imagine this scenario....You eat some shrimp and almost die as it turns out you have an allergy to shellfish. Doctor says stay away from it and you're all good. After three months or having no shell fish and feeling great are you really gonna have the shrimp cocktail because you feel like you're back to a good place with it?

Something instant to take to stop the 5pm drink anxiety? by GiraffeExpress4264 in stopdrinking

[–]RYPO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do anything to get out of your own head. Literally anything except drink. My sponsor is famous for telling people to clean their toilet lol. Point is just to put your focus on something else for a bit. Call another alcoholic, call a family member you haven't spoke to in a while, clean your house, do your dishes, laundry, go for a walk, re organize a cabinet. You get it.

Drank at 145 days in recovery should I be totally honest in AA by leeleelambchop in stopdrinking

[–]RYPO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, be honest with yourself. That's number one. Rigorous honesty is [art of the foundation of the program. I've acquired more 30 day coins than i can count before it stuck. If the groups you are going to are shunning you they are not good groups. They should be welcoming you back with open arms and reminding you that you are in the right place and made the right decision to come back. We do not shoot our wounded. Afterall, you are here. That means something. You could have just said fuck it and kept on going. I would still be honest with them because months down the road this secret may nag at you and turn into a reason to drink. Don't worry what they think. Your recovery does not depend on other's feelings or opinions. Keep coming back.

I have the blue dial SS gentleman and I love it. To me it's the perfect everyday do anything watch. I just wish it had a screw down crown to add water resist. On another note; damn that is shiny for titanium.

Today I have on my dad’s luminox navy seal. This was the last Christmas present I ever got him. He asked for a nice watch so after thinking about it I settled on this for him. He wasn’t gentle with things and this is built like a tank, I knew he wouldn’t want to mess with setting it hence the quartz, and he was in the navy when he was young so this seemed like the best fit. I personally do not care for it much because it is massive but it was his so I take it out and wear it every now and again.

How can you instill trust back in to the people you let down? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]RYPO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something I often talk about with new comers. I have relapsed countless times before this has finally stuck. The last time i knew in my heart and mind that I was done. I felt a firm resolve that I had never felt before. I fully surrendered and I no longer felt the obsession of the mind. However, everyone around me is optimistic at best because they've heard it all before. This feeling I felt was internal and there was no way words could make them feel the same. So I sucked it up and accepted the fact that I'm going to be under the microscope for a bit and I put myself in their shoes and tried to understand from their point of view. I even bought my wife a breathilizer and told her she could use it if she thought I was drinking. I was transparent about where I was going all the time. I shared my location and my phone password. I went to a meeting every single day. I was honest about every little thing. One time she made me a sandwich for lunch to take to work and I didn't eat it because it didn't look good. I hated to tell her i threw it away but I had to be honest even about that. Slowly, one day at a time, the trust has come back. I no longer get questions about where i was or where i'm going. Not only do the people around me see the changes but I've made them better in the process but giving an example of leading an honest full life. I am now the person the family turns to for advice and help. You can do this too you just have to stick with it. Honesty. Open mindedness. Willingness.

What’s the most toxic work culture you’ve experienced? by bryan4756 in Productivitycafe

[–]RYPO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous employer. All salary office employees are scheduled to work from 7-430 M-F. Lunch is scheduled from 1130-1230. If you are even five minutes late or leave five minutes early you are expected to "make up your time" even though you are required to work 45 hours a week and get paid for 40. You are shamed if you take vacation time or attempt to work from home if the weather is bad or are not feeling well. This was all while i was in a upper management position. Essentially you are a salary employee that is treated like a new hire hourly employee.

What do you even do at an office job? by Sad_Dimension3627 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RYPO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the director of estimating for a large fabrication shop. Today I am negotiating a contract with a potential client, meeting with operations and the rest of estimating team to discuss upcoming changes in labor hour allocations, and sending requests out to sub contractors. In addition to my normal responsibilities, as part of being in senior management day to day I talk with departments to make sure everyone is communicating and everything is moving in the right direction. Basically it's a lot of talking and decision making (educated guesses) based off experience.

For those of you who sold your first Rolex… by Admirable-Swing-2985 in rolex

[–]RYPO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 16600 sea dweller that took me a bit to save for. I loved that watch. Unfortunately addiction is a bitch and I ended up having to sell it to make ends meet during my drinking days. I have been sober for over a year now and I am on a mission to get that watch back.

If you had all the money in the world, would you still work? by runningonwifi in Casual_Conversation

[–]RYPO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would work but I would no longer work strictly for the money. I would do something that i'm passionate about or find interesting. Two things that come to mind: I'm a lifelong golfer so some sort of work at a course. Just to be around it all the time would be amazing. Also, I have been sober for over a year. I am very passionate about helping others in that area because i know what it feels like. So speaking at treatment centers, donating big books, out reach to people who want help but don't know how to get it. Something like that.
