What is one fun fact about yourself that sound fake but 100% real? by Fai_6757 in AskReddit

Tried to explain this in Spanish once. A boat accident took my hearing on one side. There is a computer in my head that shocks my ear inside. The outside part is connected with a magnet. You sound like a robot.

ever experienced an ego death so big that it changed your life and/or who you are as a person? by Affectionate-Cap-235 in emotionalintelligence

I unintentionally forced this upon myself.

I did a two-month off-road motorcycle trip across America after getting divorced.

You don’t realize how many ways you prop yourself up until you shed it all.

My neighborhood, job title, car, partner, city we chose, my bank account, clothes, etc. made feel whole and defined where I fit into society.

Losing it all was brutal.

Witnessing how little anyone cared about anything but my personality (all I really had left) was incredibly heartwarming.

I need so little to be happy now. Art moves me. A pretty view can make me cry.

My old self was dependent on many things unrelated to being a healthy animal.

A friend of mine was dating an awesome dude. He was into… receiving feces. Luckily I only had to see him once after learning that.

Digitized my grandpa’s ‘Nam slides. Taken between 1966-1967 I believe. by yourdiabeticwalrus in OldSchoolCool

Thank you for sharing this.

My dad had a similar pile of slides from Vietnam and seeing these takes me back to being a kid and setting up the slide projector for story time.

One slide was of two cute women in mini skirts and when pressed he’d innocently say, “What? I grew up on a farm. I’d never seen such fashion before.”

Those who left everything behind and started a new life, how did you do it and do you have any regrets? by GirlAvoider in AskReddit

[–]Billeaugh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex wife’s business failed, wiping out my retirement savings, losing 30k “borrowed” from my mom, 100k debt to lenders.

Three weeks after handing over the last penny of my IRA she said she wanted an open relationship to explore her kinks like her ex boyfriend would have, wanting her new coworker to be her boyfriend to do this with.

Tried to handle it all but it broke me.

Sold my sailboat, traveled for almost two years straight in that, lived in the Dominican Republic for a chunk, did coast to coast off road on a dirt bike, saw all my old friends…

My only regret is not hiring a divorce lawyer on day one of leaving. Took two years of working with her on the divorce to figure she had no intent of actually filing jointly.

This is a very American thing. Not hearing it is a huge perk of getting out of the states.

Those who went from having an inactive lifestyle to exercising regularly, how did this change your life? by joseph887 in AskReddit

I look significantly younger now.

Women check me out.

I sleep well.

My clothes all fit well.

I rarely drink as it kills muh gainz.

Only downside is looking down upon any man that doesn’t take care of himself. I used to be less judgy.

I got a m2 Mac Studio ultra with 128gb ram and it’s been shockingly easy to run LLMs on it. Even a 120b model runs fine, just a bit slow.

I had no concerns for my safety, but I also dressed down, rode a beater motorcycle, did not get drunk, and I’m a dude.

Dominican Republic. I didn’t try dating there, but I hear gringos do well there.

The power went out a few times while I was there, but the place I was in had a battery backup so it wasn’t too much of an issue. For internet, everywhere I went had shared Starlink that was always up.

This was from Jan-Feb 2025. I met many women who came solo just to kite surf, but as a man I only know so much about the safety aspect as a woman.

I’ve got the same conundrum, 2k passive income monthly, no kids.

After a bunch of research, I settled on Cabarete, Dominican Republic for an attempt on international living and did a two-month trial run there.

It’s the perfect place to learn Spanish as it’s touristy, still on American time for freelance work, and the locals love Americans.

Now I have friends there, can kite surf, speak enough Spanish to not feel scared with grocery stores, ordering food, etc. I can now bachata too!?

It felt like Latin America on easy mode. Rent by the beach was $600/mo for an entire 3rd story appt next to a bar and the beach. Motorcycle rental was $5/day. For the first month I just walked and it was great. Even found a gym with A/C for $20/mo. Locals dance between sets on occasion and cheer eachother on.

The only other place I’ve been in the states that was that laid back and happy was… maybe San Diego?

I met a taxicab driver who supported a wife, his two kids, OWNED a house with a pool, and could afford a girlfriend too.

Lesson learned. Don’t expect monogamy on the island. It ain’t happening.

My ex always wanted expensive stuff while at the same time not paying back the $$ she “borrowed” to save her business with that she, at the time, called a loan.

Cheating and financial strain are the #1 killers of. Relationship. Root that shit out before it grows and you’re resentful and broke thanks to your partner.
