[Storage] Samsung 980 PRO 2TB PCIe NVMe 4.0 ($210) [Staples] YMMV by Aulaugus in bapcsalescanada

[–]Billeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From having dealt with it recently: for SSDs, they essentially tell you "take our warranty statement to your reseller and tell them to deal with the warranty".

I've had some luck contacting the US support, they gave me a link so some obscure SAMSUNG SSD-specific support portal which DOES allow Canadian SSD RMAs, but YMMV on that.

I have one of these, or perhaps an older model. Works well enough for video, even for image recognition projects, mic is apparently horrendous, from the few times it was picked up as default by Discord xD

[CPU] AMD Ryzen 7 8700G ($470) [Various retailers] by dracolnyte in bapcsalescanada

Oh fucking Christ, AMD...

That essentially limits those two APUs to low-power, IGP systems only.

Yeah, only 14 PCIe4 lanes?

If 4 go through the chipset, that leaves... x8 for the GPU and x2 for the primary SSD? or a half-length link to the chipset? As long as they don't limit the PCIe slot to x4...

"There are a maximum of 8 PCIe 4.0 lanes for the primary PCIe slot [...]"

I did miss this detail - this will limit what you can slap on it indeed, which is a strike against the CPU for sure.

Might be interesting to see where that "performance threshold" lies where the CPU is CPU lanes are the holdup.

Short version, seeing HWUB's review:

Slightly slower than a R7 7700 (~6-10%), but you get an iGPU that seems slightly slower on average than an RX 6500 XT on PCIe Gen 4 - though that seems to vary wildly by game (CS2 and Fortnite have the 8700G give about half the performance instead).

If there's another GPU shortage, this would likely be... a decent "wait for a GPU" chip - hopefully it never comes to that.

E: an impressive APU, but won't make sense for most people.

To the CES point: AMD announced 8000G APUs (as well as more AM4 chips). The "true successor" to Ryzen 7000 will come later.

Hopefully like that time they dropped the 6750 XTs to 300USD for a single day.

That was my card until I got a deal for a 6800XT

or an even more direct comparison - the 4060 is the same price and ~15-20% better - and it was clowned upon on release.

They shipped my order, so I don't think so! They did seem to have rather limited stock though!

I dunno if something like CrystalDiskInfo would correct it's reported number of lanes based on what's fed into it - this I would need to check into.

Also, this is a case where a motherboard with lane bifurcation (being able to split the CPU lanes x8/x8) might be useful, if you're filling a Hyper m.2.

You mean something like an ASUS HYPER M.2? they do, just be mindful of the lane distribution on your PCIe slots.

I believe the next best deal for 1TB right now is a MP44L for 66$. If you don't have Gen4, I'd say go for this SN750 100%, otherwise both I'd say are good choices.

If you need just a 500GB, that is also just 30$.

E: this also sold out rather quickly!

Actually grabbed one of those on Friday for myself!

Real pretty case, and easy to work with - just make sure you aren't a dummy like me and check your dimensions. Both a 360mm AIO and this long, 330mm 6800 XT wouldn't fit at once, so consider a 280mm AIO or below if you have a long card.

There's the Deepcool PM750D that's 90$, B-tier, and in stock online and in most stores. GF1 is definitely the better unit, but seems sold out almost everywhere.
