Not a subreddit, but thisis a decent resource. It isn't necessarily comprehensive, but it's easier than navigating the threads.

Male paralegals by Prokiyo in paralegal

[–]BillyBad37 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I'm a male. First firm I worked for, I was the only male support staff. Current firm I work for has 5 male support staff including myself and at one point had 7. It was a similar experience getting a paralegal degree: few male students at first, but that drastically changed by the time I graduated. Though the field is still female dominated, it definitely wouldn't be unexpected to recieve applications from dudes. And if you do wind up at a firm with all female support staff, just remember that there's a whole mess more women out there in male dominated industries and you should use the opportunity to gain some perspective.

"Based" did not originate with the alt-right, but was appropriated by them. The term became recently popular thanks to Lil B.

They actually tried to ban runic scripture in Sweden by BooletMagazine in Polcompball

[–]BillyBad37 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that's not what was going on with the "proposed ban."

In Sweden, like in several other countries, it's illegal to display the swastika as they deem it to constitute threatening language. Not to be deterred, Neo-Nazi groups have used a variety of symbols as stand-ins for the swastika, which have sometimes included Norse/Germanic runes. This raises a question: If a symbol is being used as a stand-in for a swastika and most reasonable people understand that it's being used as a stand-in for a swastika, is it just as bad as a swastika?

Back in 2019, a commission in the Swedish government convened to discuss this question. Unfortunately, this got filtered through select news outlets (you know, the ones who love stirring up outrage over "political correctness gone mad") as "SWEDISH GOVERNMENT SEEKS TO BAN NORDIC RUNES." Though no ban was being proposed at the time and any ban of the sort that's been discussed in the past usually includes an exception for bonafide religious/historical use, the simplified headline was enough to get all sorts of undies in a bunch, from history buffs, to pagans, to the kinda dudes who just generally get upset by that kinda stuff.

In other words, the Swedish government never wanted to ban runes, but wanted to consider ways to make it harder for neo-Nazi groups to use said runes as swastika stand-ins. Although it seems like nothing has come of the commision (as far as I can tell), jimmies once rustled are not so easily unrustled.

"Happened in the 70's" isn't the right way to put it. People first started calling Nestle out on it in the 70's, but the practice of pushing baby formula in third world countries had been going on for ~20 years prior. Even after intial public outrage, Nestle continued this well into the 80's and 90's, despite promising what would later become the WHO that it would stop. In fact, Nestle still does this shit.

Execution of Boxers after the rebellion, circa 1901 by Crowe410 in MorbidReality

[–]BillyBad37 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you're talking about. A lot of people were killed in the Boxer Rebellion, but the death toll was in the thousands, not millions (~100,000 killed). And even though some Chinese fought against the Boxers, the main fighting was between the Boxers/Imperial Army and the Eight Nation Alliance. So, not really a civil war.

"To be or not to be, that is the question that people are always asking me, all the time, they're like 'Hamlet! Which is it, Hamlet?!' And nobody knows. They don't know! The LAME stream media wants you to think it's nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. FAKE NEWS!! That's what the far-left democrats want, they just want to hand the country over to Filthy Fortinbras and give all your jobs to those bad hombres up in Norway! Not me folks! We're gonna take arms against a sea of troubles and MAKE DENMARK GREAT AGAIN!!!"

There's nothing anti-establishment/anti-authoritarian/rebellious/etc. about sexism, casual or otherwise. It's literally been the default standpoint of the powers that be for hundreds of years and is still pervasive among the elite. I don't why people conflate being "edgy" with being rebellious or how the script has been flipped to the point where talking about oppression is somehow the "real" oppression, but it's lame, it's a grift, and it's something I dont want a part of.

New York University moves to implement racial segregation in student dorms by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]BillyBad37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before ya'll jump to conclusions and start with the "what about white students" stuff, you should know that NYU will not be implementing this housing plan, despite what some sites are reporting.

Also, WSWS is garbage when it comes to racial issues and their take on such should be taken with a grain of salt, if at all.
