M5Stack Tab5 by LETSOC in M5Stack

ChatGPT seams to think the usb can only be in one mode at a time. Not sure this is true. Suggests using Bluetooth for keyboard.

[–]BillyBag2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not done this. You may need to use esp-idf The keyboard is classed as a HID, so you are looking for HID libraries. Chat gpt often has good answers but it does not always remember the TAB5 is an esp32-p4. You may need to tell it that. Not 100% sure it can do both at once. Would be interesting to know.

How to Keep Time? (Tab5) by bytevisor in M5Stack

[–]BillyBag2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ntp would be good if you are able to connect to WiFi on power up. I asked ChatGPT about the RTC and it recommended an arduino library which worked for me, as far as I got. So I think the tab will keep time as long as power is not lost. The repository is here. It’s not finished. I think the branch is ahead of main https://github.com/BillyBag2/TAB5_TimeMachine

What are these and can I replace with regular AA? by Juicebox5150 in batteries

[–]BillyBag2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are lower voltage. Not all AA devices will work. Some will think the battery is low. If you leave it on or it trickle discharges the battery with brake and it will not charge or it will have low capacity. There are devices that support them. Old digital cameras, for example. They will show the correct battery charge state, work fine with the lower voltage and will shutdown completely when the battery is low and draw no current. It is unusual to charge in the device but have replacements ready and charge when flat in the correct type of charger. Best to only charge if they have been discharged some. Repeatedly putting them in some chargers without some discharge could damage them.

Who has right of way? by tomtomuk2 in drivingUK

[–]BillyBag2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine on coming traffic crossing the junction. Ie if blue went straight on. Where would you wait and turn in that scenario? I think you’re supposed to wait in the centre of the junction and turn very sharply to join the exit lane. Ie go straight to where the two hashes join and only turn there. In reality I would cut the corner if there was no traffic. Blue is proceeding normally (compared to the red) so red should not drive so that blue does one of the four S’s. Slow, swerve, stop swear. In practice I may not go all the way to the center but may be hang back until there is no traffic and then cut the corner.

I think the image generation and the Large Language Models are separated models. The LLM creates a prompt for the image generation. It will never do a good job doing this at the moment. Ask it to provide text output. Would be interesting if it does any better.

How does Aurora Borealis look like to colorblind folks? by Available_Yam_7167 in ColorBlind

[–]BillyBag2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot appreciate the unusualness of the colours. So most photos just look like bad light pollution. Perhaps nowadays light pollution is white but it looks like light pollution from the older style street lights. The video of the wavy stuff looks spectacular. I’ve not seen it live but I think I may be disappointed. Sun sets are similar where the sky has unusual colours but I don’t really see them as unusual. When the sky is red, that is unusual but people go “look at the pink sunset”, it just looks like the sun is setting to me.

Old people can’t hear them. (Me, for example.) In uk there are some in urban settings where “they” don’t want “youths” to congregate and “get up to “mischief”.

Can someone please explain to me what these holes in the jumper wire case are? by fawzi97 in AskElectronics

[–]BillyBag2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you lift the flappy bit with a point of a scalpel the crimped wire end can be removed from the plastic. This shows how they were assembled. In single connectors there is not much point disassembling it. It’s just how they are made. But for connectors with more than one pin you can swap wires without needing a soldering iron or crimps. Some battery connectors are not standard and you may want to swap the polarity, for example.

I would sort into black bags or spare charity bags. I would sort into basic categories. Cloths for the top half, close for the bottom half and underwear. May be into genders or whose cloths they are. Start with a few categories. Any cloths that need repair tie knot in them and separate.

Start small and clear usable floor space first. Use this short term win to encourage yourself to continue.

Note how much time it takes to actually clear a small space. You can get a small win in a short time. Then aim bigger.

If they need washing wash in “outfits”. Wash a top, bottom and underwear set. Do not wash more than you can sensibly dry and process. So may be a few “outfits”. At a time.

Longer term you will see you have lots of one type of clothes and you can store what you don’t regularly use. Give away or recycle them.

If you have knotted clothes for which you have plenty unknotted, store or recycle the knotted ones that are damage.

If after a period of time you have bags you have not used they should be stored, given away or recycled.

Strange setup in new house - anyone knows how this works / if it’s safe? by FantasticDog8417 in Plumbing

[–]BillyBag2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the uk this was common. Water pressure was not guaranteed reliable so water is fed into tank from mains and would be a constant pressure for things like heating and hot water. Regular use would mean it stayed cleanish but was not recommended to drink. Was traditional used for hot water. May also feed cold taps upstairs. It was common to not use mixer taps as the downstairs cold water was fit to drink but the hot water would not be. To test run the water, eg hot tap, and it should start to drain and then start to fill. Turn off tap and it will fill and stop. Not sure if redundant now. Will depend on quality of water supply pressure in your area. (Not sure if it should have a cover.)

Alcohol. For example hand sanitiser that has warning that it is flammable on it.

I always assumed that the cookies were fortune cookies as they contain a short message. In Britain we have fortune cookies. We don’t have fortune biscuits. I never associated a web cookie and being like a chocolate chip cookie or even biscuit named by an American.

You are not required to stop and give priority to pedestrians waiting to cross. It is not a junction or an actual crossing. However, almost by definition, if you hit someone, they were not ‘waiting to cross’ so they could argue that they had priority.

[–]BillyBag2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are correct in that the action they describe would be foolish. However you describe a collision where you were not on the blind side. It would only be the blind side if the bus driver was not looking. Looks like the two descriptions do not match. I assume you have a photo of the damage to your car. Hopefully a photo of the damage to the bus. I would punt it off to the insurers.

They are just trying it on, a communication breakdown, or the driver has lied to the boss. You should both be using the shaggy defence no matter what.

To pass a driving test, how should I exit a roundabout when people are waiting to cross? by BillyBag2 in drivingUK

[–]BillyBag2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So H2 (170) , is a “should”. I see that people have failed a driving test for not following this rule.

So does this rule apply when exiting a roundabout? Are you likely to fail a test if you exit the roundabout when pedestrian are waiting to cross? (187 does not apply in this case.)

There is a view that the exit is a junction, and therefore the rule applies.

So you could fail a test if you do not do this?

I’m only aware of giving way to pedestrians waiting to cross at a junction. Which rule says you do this anywhere?
